DPU to Establish Process for Review of Municipal Aggregation Plans

BOSTON — The state Department of Public Utilities opened an investigation to establish municipal aggregation guidelines, with the goal of creating a more efficient and streamlined process for cities and towns to establish municipal aggregation programs for their residents and businesses.      The order opens an investigation, and includes proposed guidelines, as well as a proposed template municipal aggregation plan designed to aid municipalities in developing new municipal aggregation plans. As part of its investigation, the DPU proposes an expedited review process for certain municipalities that comply with the proposed template plan and specific provisions to help

EPA Seeks Applicants For Environmental Justice Technical Assistance Grants

BOSTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) New England Region Office announced a?grant competition for an "Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center"?(EJ TCTAC).?

The agency is offering this funding opportunity of up to $10 million to help communities and other environmental justice stakeholders in the New England states access federal assistance and resources to address environmental and energy justice concerns. EPA Region 1 includes the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, and 10 Tribes.

The seasonal influence of what is normally a weaker August through September continued this week. All the averages have declined since the end of July and will continue to do so in the weeks ahead.   My expected pullback in the equity averages continued this week. So far in August, the S&P 500 Index is down 5 percent, the NASDAQ has fallen 7 percent-plus, while the Dow Jones industrials outperformed with a 2.4 percent decline. Dalton Home Facing Condemnation

DALTON, Mass. — A residence located at 96 Anthony Road is facing condemnation unless the resident can make strides in cleaning the property to meet safety standards.    Despite having concerns, the Board of Health this week agreed to give Gary Dill an additional four weeks to clean the property.    The board previously approved a deadline of Aug. 14 to clean the kitchen, clear the egresses in all rooms, remove debris, repair the front stairs, and install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, Health Agent Agnes Witkowski said.    Due to an unexpected illness, cleaning of the property has been delayed, Dill said.    The property's owner, Sandy

Silvia Lopez Chavez looks to connect community across disciplines and cultural boundaries.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The large mural taking shape on the Shipton Building on North Street is the work of Silvia Lopez Chavez.   The artist was commissioned through the Let It Shine! PITTSFIELD, Mass. Berkshire County's five Cultural Districts are partnering again on an even more ambitious ArtWeek Berkshires 2023, to be held Oct.14-22.

The cultural districts include Downtown Great Barrington Cultural District, Lenox Cultural District, North Adams Cultural District, Upstreet Cultural District in Pittsfield and Williamstown Cultural District.

Dalton Select Board Votes to Move Polling Station to Senior Center

DALTON, Mass. — Following a lengthy and at times heated discussion, the Select Board voted in favor of relocating the town's polling station to the Senior Center as of March 5, 2024.    The split decision to move it from the Community Recreation Association passed 3-2 following remarks made by residents, the police chief, the town clerk, and board members, and against the recommendation of an ad hoc committee to stay at the CRA for now.   During the annual town meeting, residents voted to have the town clerk and safety officials assess possible voting locations and present their findings to the board at the end of 120 days.
