DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District has received a certified letter from the city of Pittsfield claiming that it has consistently been using more than the 46 million gallons of water per month allotted to the town. The city is claiming that the district is using 66 million gallons of water per month, Water Superintendent Bob Benlien told the Board of Water Commissioners on Tuesday. In the past, Benlien has been dealing with Pittsfield's Cleveland treatment plant operators regarding this and he has checked all the district meters at the pump stations and had them calibrated, he said.  SALISBURY, Md. – Mia Arpante collected three hits and a win in the circle on Thursday as the Mass Destruction 16U travel softball team went 2-0 to stay alive in the loser’s bracket at the double elimination USSSA Eastern Championship. In the first game of the day, against the Arlington Sage Gold, Arpante doubled and drove in a run in a 6-5 win. Kamryn Renata was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sadie Aitken, Elena Iovieno and Amanda Pou each doubled in a six-hit attack for the destruction. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is expected to hold a preliminary election on Sept. 19 to trim the candidate fields for mayor, Ward 2 and Ward 7, barring any last-minute withdrawals. Friday was the last day to submit nomination papers to the Registrar of Voters for certification and preliminary ballot positions will be drawn on Aug. 10. Each of the three contested position will be narrowed down to two candidates on Sept. 19 in preparation for the general election on Nov. 7. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — With a couple hundred responses to a survey on the town's police and EMS facility needs, the Public Safety Building Committee is now looking at the best steps forward for proposals and funding.
"You hear a lot of things," Chair Mark Siegars said to the committee last week. "Some people are really upset. Some people are like, 'Why are we wasting our time? They already did a good plan.' Some people are saying, 'Why are we wasting our time? We don't have any money.'"

Committee members Cliff Nilan and Chair Earl Persip III discuss options at last week's meeting. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Wahconah Park Restoration Committee got a first look at what the historic ballpark could become.
Members last week saw two possible plans: a renovated option and an elevated option. Other important aspects including flooding considerations and a natural grass versus artificial turf field were also mulled by committee members and the public.
Principal architect Salvatore Canciello explained that the controlling factor of the renovated option is the potential to save the superstructure of the roof.
