Berkshire County Fire Departments Awarded Grants

STOW—The Baker-Polito Administration announced $5 million in grant awards to 308 fire departments from the FY23 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.   In Berkshire County Adams, Dalton, Great Barrington, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sheffield, Stockbridge, and Williamstown all received grants.   "We ask so much of our firefighters, and no matter how dangerous or difficult the situation, they always do whatever it takes to help," said Governor Charlie Baker. State Fire Marshal: Dec. 12 is Candle Safety Day

STOW, Mass. —Candle Safety Day is observed on the second Monday of December, and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey is reminding residents to follow safety guidelines as we enter the period when most candle fires start.   "There have been more than 1,000 candle fires in Massachusetts over the past 10 years," State Fire Marshal Ostroskey said. "Together, they caused nine deaths, 192 injuries, and over $32 million in damages. More of these fires started in December than in any other month, and especially on the days leading up to Christmas. A New Journey Awaits this Years Larry Murray Award Winner

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Theatre Critics Association awarded director Daniel Elihu Kramer with the Larry Murray Award earlier this month for his work in community outreach as Producing Artistic Director of Chester Theatre Company.  

The award was a memorable farewell as Kramer moved on from his position in October to embark on a new journey of teaching, writing, and directing. 

Chester Theatre Company has named Tara Franklin and James Barry as their new co-producing artistic directors.

This & That Sports Owner Works to Give Back to the Community

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —This & That Sports owner Reggie Davis and his wife, Crystal Davis, have been working the past two years to be part of improving the community he loves.    The sports card store, located at 128 Fenn St., does this through its programming and community relations.    This year, they are continuing one of their promotions that they started just a month after opening on Nov. 1, 2020. It provides kids between the ages of 2 and 14 with a free $10 gift card to Walmart so they are able to get a toy.    Parents are encouraged to bring their children into the shop to register and return a couple days before Christmas to pick the card

McCann Senior Christopher Sunn Wins Superintendents Award

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — McCann Technical School student Christopher Sunn has received a certificate of academic excellence from the Mass Association of School Superintendents. 

Sunn, a senior in the school's Computer Aided Design program, is a straight-A student with a 4.4 GPA. When he graduates, Sunn plans to attend UMass Amherst, where he will study engineering. 

Superintendent James Brosnan presented Sunn and his family with the award at the school committee meeting on Thursday.

Lever Celebrates $1M Mark in Grants, Sustainability Challenge
