NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A half-dozen meetings, including four lengthy workshops this fall with school staff and stakeholders, is informing preliminary designs for the Greylock/Brayton school project. Among the takeaways is the importance of "agile" and flexible classrooms, security, outdoor connectivity, professional space, welcoming arrivals and breakout areas. Also listed as important were classroom neighborhoods, community access, wayfinding, quiet spaces, gathering hubs and STEM and STEAM makerspaces. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Beacon Cinema is hosting a water celebration in conjunction with the release of "Avatar 2 — The Way of Water" in January. The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires has joined Shine A Light, a comprehensive national initiative to illuminate the dangers of antisemitism through education, engagement, and advocacy. According to a press release, Shine A Light uses the story of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, to champion the message that light can dispel darkness. Through a coalition of more than 100 Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, Shine a Light seeks to catalyze conversations and raise awareness across communities, on school campuses, and in the workplace, so that people will better understand what constitutes antisemitism and take steps to respond. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Gary Linen, 42, has been sentenced to life in state prison in the murder of Asiyanna Jones. Lengthy state prison sentences were handed down by Judge John Agostini on Wednesday for those responsible for the death of of the 22-year-old Jones. In addition to Linen, Carey Pilot was sentenced to serve 15 to 20 years in state prison for manslaughter, and Elizabeth Perez to serve two to four years in state prison for misleading a police officer in the homicide investigation.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Lantern Bar and Grill owners are looking into the historic eatery's future after it closed in April.
On Monday, Licensing Board approved an alcohol license transfer from previous owner North Street Eats LLC to 449 North RE LLC, a Mill Town Capital company that owns the real estate that includes The Lantern.
The intent is to find another tenant and it was reported that there is potential tenant in negotiations.
"Its role up to this point has been that of landlord and lender to the owner of North Street Eats LLC doing businesses as The Lantern," attorney Michael Macdonald explained on behalf of the applicant.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinance Review Committee last week began its refining of the city’s 26-chapter City Code. The panel mapped out a slate of changes to Chapters 1 and 2, which deal with general provisions and administration.
The changes addressed gender-neutral language, outdated items that no longer apply to the city, and occurrences of redundancy. A number of items were also tabled to collect more information.
"It makes a little more sense now what our goal is, and of what we're looking for," City Clerk Michele Benjamin said after reviewing former City Clerk Jody Phillips' notes on the chapters.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Residents will have the opportunity to speak on the renewal of the city's cable television license with Spectrum. The city has less than two years left for its current 10-year contract with with Charter Communications Spectrum. For the next nine months, the newly reconstituted Cable Advisory Committee will be completing an "ascertainment" process in preparation for negotiating the new contract. During this period, the committee will conduct public hearings at which residents have the opportunity to express their concerns regarding their cable services.
