Market 32 Issues Voluntary Recall of Pizza| 12:23PM / Thursday, August 10, 2023 | |
 SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper/Market 32 is issuing a voluntary recall on a variety of store-made "corner to corner" pizzas, manufactured on July 2, 2023. The products are being recalled because the manufacturer of the pizza dough, Deiorio's, has advised that foreign materials, fragments of a conveyer belt used in the manufacturing process, may be found in the dough. There are no known harmful side effects from the products but customers who purchased them can return them to their local Price Chopper/Market 32 store for a full refund.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Chris Considine scored in the 38th minute Wednesday to give the Maroon a 1-0 win over FC Berkshire in the summer championship game of the Pittsfield Soccer League. Considine snuck behind the defense deep on the right wing and found the back of the net to give his team the win one year after it dropped a decision on penalty kicks in the league final. “I got a lucky break,” Considine said afterward. “They broke down once, probably, [FC Berkshire’s] defense was solid all day. Lally Beach lies at the end of a narrow residential street. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — A town resident wants signage at the public beach to encourage more orderly usage. Michael Lally, who resides on Sunrise Street, said he has taken care of the Pontoosuc Lake beach for years and wants to know why the sign stipulating that it is for town residents only is no more. The Lanesborough Lally Public Beach is located at the end of Sunrise Street and he's calling for "residents only," "closes at dusk" and "no smoking" signage. From Lally's observation, about 80 percent of beachgoers are not from Lanesborough.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Sarkis scored 27 points and pulled down 15 rebounds Tuesday to lead Central Radio to an 80-66 win over Pizza House/Drury High School in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League B Division. Dave Wellington scored 21 points, and Jude Collins had 17 in the win. Patrick Kennedy posted a double-double with 14 points and 18 boards.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Christian Center's annual community day returns this Saturday with food, games, and friendly faces.
Meant to bring people together and ease the stressors of everyday life, the event is a long-held tradition. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can enjoy a variety of activities around the center and at Tucker Park on Robbins Avenue.
"We've been doing it for decades," Executive Director Betsy Sherman said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Police Department would like to extend the emergency co-responders' hours to cover all police shifts.
On Monday, the Personnel Review Board voted to increase the work week from 35 hours to 37.5 hours.
Interim Police Chief Thomas Dawley explained that the co-responders were hired for a 40-hour week Monday through Friday but changed to a "four to two" schedule to match the officers because it was more beneficial. This means they work four consecutive days and then have two days off. Currently, there are two co-responders and one social worker assigned to the PPD as part of the program and Dawley would like to expand it.

Suggestions on how to use the Born Learning Trail. DALTON, Mass. — Pinegrove Park now has a Born Learning trail that provokes new ways of play for children. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was on Friday held for the trail that is part of a national campaign by United Way. Accompanying 10 stations with suggestions for interacting are sidewalk illustrations by Dee Sabean and Gary Davis that were colored in by volunteers.
The addition was originally proposed by Wendy Provencher, Central Berkshire Regional School District's family and community engagement coordinator.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. – FC Berkshire and Maroon Monday earned spots in the championship game of the PIttsfield Soccer League. The two sides are the last ones standing from the dozen that began play in the league earlier this summer. They will play at 6:30 on Wednesday at Wahconah Park to decide the title. In Monday’s first semi-final, D.J. Saez scored about 10 minutes into the first half to provide the only goal of FC Berkshire’s 1-0 win over Vulture.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission signed off on the replacement of two footbridges in the Pittsfield State Forest and Taconic High School's track reconstruction.
The high school's track has been cited for its drainage issues and called an "accident waiting to happen" by community members. Conditions have also caused many cancellations.
Included in the city's 2023 budget was $1 million for the project, which includes reconstruction of the rubberized quarter-mile running track and reorganized field features to better serve the athletes.
The project area is the existing track and field on the north side of the campus abutting Lakeway

Dalton Zoning Board Advises Resident on Fence Variance By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Zoning Board of Appeals last week advised resident Eric Pratt on how he should proceed in applying for a variance to install a fence 25 feet off the center of the road at his residence, located at 112 Kimberly Drive. Pratt had applied for a special permit to install the fence but was informed by the building inspector that he will need a variance not a special permit. The town bylaw requires that fences be installed 50 feet in from the center of the road and requires a 4-foot fence. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) and Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) will offer a free Choke Saver Training class on Monday, Aug. 21 from 10-11:15 am at BCC, located at 1350 West Street. The 75-minute class provides participants with a two-year certification. Local businesses, such as restaurants, that are required to have Choke Safe certified individuals on site are particularly encouraged to participate.
