Pittsfield Hospitality and Tourism Receipts Rebounding, Cannabis Dropping

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hospitality and tourism industries have continued to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, Finance Director Matthew Kerwood reported on Tuesday.

During a first-quarter review of the fiscal year 2023 finances, it was revealed that first-quarter collections for hotel/motel local receipts are about $317,000, which is nearly 42 percent of the estimated FY23 collection of $760,000.

Around this time in FY22, the city had collected some $217,000 for that type of local receipt and in FY21, about $182,000.

The first quarter collection for meals is about $254,000, which represents around 33 percent of the estimated FY23 collection of about $776,000.

BCC Opens One Stop Enrollment Center

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Berkshire Community College staff, community leaders, and students gathered in the quad to celebrate the completion of the new One Stop Enrollment Center.   “Berkshire Community College is such an important landmark and institution in the city of Pittsfield and for the entire Berkshires. Pittsfield Finance Subcommittee OKs TIF for Interprint

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The finance subcommittee on Tuesday supported a 10-year tax increment financing agreement for Interprint that is expected to save the company $482,000 over the next decade on an estimated $1.9 million more in valuation.

The TIF will provide 100 percent forgiveness of the incremental increase in property taxes resulting from the construction of a building expansion in the first and second years and decrease by 20 percent every two years.  The current valuation of the property is $5,580,300.

BRPC Seeks Input On Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) is seeking public comment on a draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Berkshire County, which will be in effect from 2023 through 2027.   The CEDS is a coordinated regional planning process that documents current economic conditions, identifies priority economic development projects, and sets goals and strategies for the upcoming 5-year period. Two previous CEDS have been published for Berkshire County, in 2011 and 2017. The 2023 edition will include an expanded Resiliency Planning chapter, as well as an overview of COVID-19 impacts on unemployment rates and labor force statistics.   The

BCC To Host Open House

Pittsfield Board Subdivision Approval Not Needed for Housing Project

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —The Community Development Board determined that subdivision approval is not required for two new residential lots on a 56-acre parcel at West Street and Gale Avenue.

The applicant West Gale LLC intends to build two residential homes on 27 acres of the parcel that has frontage on West Street.  Construction is planned to take up only a small percentage of the properties.

The request states that lots meet proper zoning requirements, with one and two complying with R-43 zoning requirements and the remaining land complying with R-20 zoning requirements.  The two lots are subject to special permit approval, which was granted earlier this year.

Pittsfield Conservation Commission OKs Supportive Housing Proposal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A permanent supportive housing proposal was OK'd by the Conservation Commission last week.

On Thursday, the panel issued an order of conditions for the construction of a three-story, multi-family dwelling and associated site improvements on 107-111 West Housatonic Street.

Berkshire Housing Development Corp. intends to build a 28-unit permanent supportive housing complex, which combines affordable housing and support services to build independent living skills and connect people with health, treatment, and employment resources.

Daytime Paving Scheduled on Sections of Route 8

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be conducting daytime paving operations on sections of Route 8 from the Deerfield Street intersection in Pittsfield and then north to the town line for Lanesborough and Cheshire.   The work will take place daily from Tuesday, Oct. 18, through Friday, Oct. 21, during daytime hours from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.   Standard MassDOT construction work zone logistics and police details will be used for traffic control.  Two lanes of travel will be maintained at all times.    Drivers who are traveling through this area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.    All
