PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Killeen Arace & Quinn PC announced a new business partner, Adam Rice, CPA.   Rice is a veteran of the US Army. He went on to receive his accounting degree and MBA from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). After completing his degrees, he earned the enrolled agent and Certified Public Accountant designations.   He most recently owned and operated ATW Accounting. Brien Center Marks 100 Years of Mental Health Care With Gala

Pittsfield Police Investigating Dalton Ave. Gun Incident

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Friday Oct. 21  at approximately 5:48 PM, Pittsfield Police were dispatched to the area of Dalton Ave and Dartmouth Street for a report of shots fired.   911 callers observed a fight in progress with one of the people involved shooting a firearm. Witnesses provided clothing and physical descriptions of the people involved.    All had fled the area prior to police arrival. A PPD K9 unit conducted a track in the area. An area search was conducted with negative results for those involved.   No one was struck during the incident. Ballistic evidence was found at the scene. Pittsfield Real Estate and Personal Property Assessments Available

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield's Board of Assessors has released the real estate and personal property assessments for Jan. 1, 2022, which are part of the citywide property reevaluation completed for fiscal year 2023.   Beginning Monday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 28, the assessment abstracts will be available on the city website, cityofpittsfield.org or in person at the Assessors' Office, Room 108, City Hall. Pittsfield Affordable Housing Trusts Looks to Solidify Mission

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's Affordable Housing Trust has been established; now it needs a mission statement and an action plan.

In its second meeting, the board voted to hear from organizations that offer housing services, entities that create housing, and other affordable housing trusts over the next few meetings.

With insight from the local housing authority, housing developers such as Mill Town Captial and Habitat for Humanity, and other trusts in the county and beyond, the panel hopes to solidify its path forward.

Member Kamaar Taliaferro also sees resident feedback as an important part of the equation.

Valentine Road Construction Begins Monday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning Monday, Oct. 24, Eversource will be performing an upgrade to the underground electrical system along Valentine Road from West Street to Taconic High School.   The work, which will be conducted by JH Maxymillian, is expected continue through the winter, as permitted.   Crews are expected to begin work at 93 Valentine Road. Work will begin at 7 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.   One lane of traffic will be available; a police detail will be on-site during peak hours for nearby school drop-off and pick up activity.  Expect delays.

MassDOT Stresses Importance of Adult Role Models During Teen Driver Safety Week

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and Registry of Motor Vehicles are underscoring the importance of speaking with teenagers about safe driving behaviors during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Teen Driver Safety Week, which began on Sunday, Oct. 16, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 22.    Adults are encouraged to specifically discuss with teens the need to travel at or below the speed limit, wear a seatbelt, put cellular phones away, use turn signals, drive sober and alert, always look at the road ahead and do not drive drowsy or distracted. Hot Plate Brewery Coming to Pittsfield this Winter

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hot Plate Brewery will make its debut in Downtown Pittsfield this winter.

Brooklyn, N.Y., transplants Mike Dell'Aquila and Sarah Real are planning a soft opening in December and a grand opening in early 2023.

"One of the things we believe in craft beer is that it brings people together, and we wanted to build a brewery that could really take that to the fullest extent of the idea," Dell'Aquila said.

FEMA Awards Funds to Massachusetts for COVID-19 Pandemic Administrative Costs

BOSTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will send more than $26 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse it for some of the administrative costs incurred responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.   The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) will receive a total of $26,077,698 in federal funding through FEMA's Public Assistance grant program to reimburse the cost of administering grants FEMA provided to the commonwealth for such expenses as testing, sheltering and providing meals to vulnerable populations.   The administrative costs are calculated as a percentage of the grants provided.   "FEMA is pleased to be able to

Berkshire Humane Offers Free Rabies Vaccines, Microchips, Reduced Adoption Fees

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Subaru Loves Pets Grant, all animal adoptions in October will be discounted by $50 and people can get their pet inoculated against the rabies virus or a free pet microchip on Oct. 29.   This initiative is also supported by community donations.   The free rabies and microchip clinic for cats and dogs will be from 9 am to 11 am at Haddad Subaru at 625 East Street.
