 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) announces the return of the Independence Day Run, held just before the start of the Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade. The 5K race has not been held since 2019 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of the run marks its 35th year. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority’s (BRTA) Advisory Board voted to implement the proposed systemwide service changes that will go into effect on July 1, 2022. DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Health provided an update on the Community Recreation Association's (CRA) pool permit on Monday which is still in process until the CRA can resolve the combined chlorine discrepancies and can show that the drain covers have not expired in accordance to the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. The pool is still open and the CRA has been testing the pool five times a day to keep a close eye on the combined chlorine discrepancies that it has been running into. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit report that it is finding an increased amount of fentanyl in various drugs that recreational users may not be expecting. Law enforcement responding to recent overdoses, both fatal and non-fatal, are discovering through toxicology and drug testing that fentanyl is present more frequently in cocaine products and drugs purported to be prescription but are not, according to information from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is looking to adopt an affordable housing trust to create and preserve accessible housing in the community. On Monday, the Ordinances and Rules subcommittee unanimously voted in favor of the trust. It will be sent to the full council next week.
"Basically it's a mechanism that communities can adopt as a way to help create affordable housing, and there's a whole host of ways it can do that," City Planner CJ Hoss explained.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Immigrant Center is celebrating 25 years of providing vital services to local immigrants. BIC was founded in 1997 by the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires to resettle Russian refugees and, in October 2021, became an independent nonprofit organization. The organization has helped more than 1,000 people become citizens, which Development Director Sheryl Lechner identified as its biggest impact.
"We're really the only local alternative offering accredited, legal immigration services accredited by the Department of Justice as an alternative to a private immigration attorney," she explained.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Airport Commission was informed by Oak Leaf Energy Partners that the Earhart solar project along South Mountain Road is still on its way. Oak Leaf worked with electric utility Eversource's engineers to come to a resolution regarding the interconnection issues has been resolved.
