PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Five people were injured, two of them seriously, in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Dalton Avenue and Benedict Road on Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. when police say a 2007 Saturn Aura driven by Steven Kempter, 51, on Dalton Avenue collided with a 2014 Subaru that was moving south through the intersection on Benedict Road.

The force of the collision flipped the Subaru, operated by 38-year-old Patrick Doyle, onto its driver's side and sent both vehicles into the eastbound lane of Dalton Avenue where they collided with a third vehicle, a 2016 Jeep.

Doyle and his passenger were taken to Berkshire Medical Center with life-threatening injures, according to police.

Kempter and two of the four passengers in his vehicle were taken to Berkshire Medical Center with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, Mackenzie Doyle, 24, was uninjured. All of the operators were Pittsfield residents.

Pittsfield Police and Fire and County Ambulance responded to the scene.

The intersectionwas closed to traffic for three hours for the investigation and clean up.
