PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield Girls Softball League will be very busy over the next few weeks as dozens of teams descend upon the Doyle Softball Complex on Benedict Road in Pittsfield for two separate  tournaments.

“Battle in the Berkshires II” will take place June 22-24 for age groups U16, U14, and U12.  Following that tournament, PGS and the Doyle Complex will host the Babe Ruth New England Regional Tournament July 5-8.

In the “Battle of the Berkshires II”, the first games on June 22 will begin at 4 p.m. and action will continue to the championship games on the afternoon of June 24. Twenty-six teams will battle for tournament crowns.  There are 12 teams competing in the U16 division, six in U14, and eight in U12. PGS’ Berkshire Force travel teams will be competing in each division.

In order to accommodate the total of 59 games over the weekend, teams will compete at Bill Laston Memorial Field in Lanesborough in addition to the four fields at the Doyle Softball Complex. Teams are coming from New Hampshire, southern Connecticut, Buffalo, N.Y., and throughout Massachusetts.

“We’re very excited to host this tournament,” PGS President Kevin Sherman said. “It’s a great opportunity for our players to showcase their skills in front of our local fans and to utilize the Doyle Softball Complex to its full potential. We have tremendous volunteers and families within PGS and our community that make this effort possible. We’ve also been provided generous assistance from the City of Pittsfield and many local sponsors.  It’s going to be a great weekend of softball for our players and a great weekend for visitors to enjoy our entire community.”

The Babe Ruth New England Regional Tournament the first of week of July will depend upon the results of various state tournaments.  PGS has hosted multiple such tournaments at the Doyle Softball Complex over the years.

“PGS is happy to be host to the U16 and U14 tournament once again,” Sherman said. "It’s a thrill to see players from throughout New England give everything they’ve got to earn a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series. Our community will be able to watch and support some very talented players. We’re certainly thankful to Babe Ruth for allowing PGS the opportunity to be a host city once again.”
