Hoosac Valley Elementary School students gave the Adams Police Department "energy bags" filled with trail mix, granola bars, and Gatorade.

The bags were delivered on Tuesday.

The idea spawned from the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The effort was part of National Police  Week.
ADAMS, Mass. — Hoosac Valley Elementary School preschool students gifted "energy bags" to local police officers.

A convoy of preschoolers made their way to the Adams Police Department to help give the officers a little boost Tuesday.

"We made energy bags and we asked our families for donations like trail mix, granola bars, Gatorade and things like that," teacher Kelly Rickert said.

"We wheeled half down this morning and the other half now."

Rickert said they were inspired to put this together after a segment on the Ellen DeGeneres Show promoting acts of kindness and it being National Police Week, the group of 60 students seized the opportunity.

Rickert said even the Cheshire Police Department received some bags and a Cheshire Officer met the students at the Adams Station – being the Cheshire Police Station would have been quite the walk.

Rickert said she hopes the project helps her students learn a thing or two about kindness.

"They seem to really enjoy it and I hope they learn how important kindness is," she said.

Not only did the police receive a gift bag Tuesday, buts students also sang them a song.
