Williams Men's Basketball Advances in League Tourney

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- James Heskett scored 25 points Saturday to lead the Williams College men’s basketball team to a 73-71 win over Trinity in the quarter-finals of the NESCAC Championships.
 
Bobby Casey scored 18 and grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and the Ephs (20-5) held the Bantams to 44 percent shooting from the field.
 
Williams travels to Amherst on Saturday to play Hamilton in the conference semi-finals.
 
Men’s Hockey
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Daniel Woofenden and Max Fuld each scored twice to lead Williams to a 6-5 win over Amherst.
 
The Ephs (13-10, 9-8) led, 6-1 after two periods and held off an Amherst comeback in the third to secure their third straight win.
 
Michael Pinios stopped 24 shots to earn the win for Williams, which hosts Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
 
Skiing
CHARLEMONT, Mass. -- The Williams College Alpine team built on their success from yesterday to help the Nordic and Alpine team finish fifth place overall at their home carnival.
 
The Ephs were once again lead on the men's side by Marc Talbott, who cracked the top 10 for the second day in a row, finishing 10th for the day just 2.18 seconds behind winner Brian McLaughlin of Dartmouth. Bryan Bailey had the fourth-fastest second run to end up 16th for the day. The men's side had another three skiers in the top 30: sophomores Cole Janco, William Kannegieser, and Ryan Schmidt were 25th, 27th and 28th, respectively.
 
The women had three skiers in the top 30 lead by Isabel Torres in 18th, and followed by Madeleine Dekko and Anna Bruce, who were 21st and 25th, respectively. Gibson Donnan finished 33rd, Makena Jones was 38th and Payton Spencer was 46th. Paula Moltzan of the University of Vermont took the win.
 
The Ephs now look forward to their final carnival on the EISA circuit at Middlebury next weekend.
