PITTSFIELD, Mass. — All members of the current School Committee have taken out nomination papers.
Joshua Cutler, Daniel Elias, Pamela Farron, Anthony Riello, Cynthia Taylor, and Katherine Yon have all taken out papers. Only one challenger has taken out papers, Craig Gaetani.
Gaetani has also taken out nomination papers for two seats on the City Council, Ward 6 and at-large. However, a provision in the charter states, " An individual may appear on the ballot for only one office at any preliminary, regular or special city election." If he qualifies for more than one seat, he'll have to choose one.
So far a total of 19 individuals took out papers for the 11 seats on the City Council. Ed Carmel, Ty Allan Jackson, Gaetani, and incumbents Peter Marchetti, Melissa Mazzeo, and Peter White are seeking at-large seats.
Michael Cirullo, Gabriel Ecklund, and Helen Moon are seeking the Ward 1 seat being vacated by Lisa Tully. Dine Guiel is challenging Kevin Morandi for Ward 2, both of whom took out papers. Incumbent Nicholas Caccamo took out papers for Ward 3 as did James Gleason. Incumbent Christopher Connell and Bill Wright took out papers for Ward 4. Incumbent Donna Todd Rivers and Bill Keane took out papers for Ward 5. In Ward 6, incumbent John Krol took out papers as did Gaetani. In Ward 7 only incumbent Anthony Simonelli took out nomination papers.
The only incumbent councilors not to take out nomination papers were Tully and At-Large Councilor Kathleen Amuso. Both of them already publicly announced they had no intention of seeking re-election.
In order to get on the ballot, candidates must have 150 signatures for an at-large seat or a seat on the School Committee and 50 for a ward seat. Nomination papers must be submitted by July 24. The city election is on Nov. 7.
