SVMC patient John Kasper and Orion Howard, MD, pose with the 2015 Telly Award.

'Telly' It Like It Is: Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, with its agency Jennings, have received a 2015 Telly Award for its Partnership is Powerful Medicine campaign video featuring cancer patient John Kasper.

In the video, John, an auto detailer in Bennington, shares his emotional story about battling cancer with SVMC’s team. The video was part of a series of patient videos, all of which can be viewed online.

“We are pleased to win this award and grateful to the team of doctors and nurses at the Cancer Center for the inspirational work they do every day,” said Ray Smith, SVHC’s director of marketing and communications. “And we are grateful for John and his willingness to share his deeply moving story. He is the real winner here. It’s an honor to have been able to capture the essence of his experience and to communicate SVHC’s commitment to patient-centered care.”

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs; video and film productions; and online commercials, video, and films. The awards attract 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

'Hospice Honors': HospiceCare in The Berkshires has been recognized as a “Hospice Honors” recipient, one of only five in Massachusetts. The designation is based on survey results from April through September 2015. The “Deyta Family Evaluation of Hospice Care” (FEHC) survey evaluates a hospice’s performance on 24 satisfaction indicator measures. To earn the “Honors” designation, HospiceCare in The Berkshires had to be above the national average in at least 20 of the evaluated questions.

Deyta surveys patients and families of approximately 1,700 hospice services across the nation and this year recognized 293 with the Hospice Honors designation, putting HospiceCare in The Berkshires in the top fifth of agencies surveyed.

Survey results are obtained from family members of patients who received hospice services, and reflect opinions about overall quality of care, patient experience, family experience, and the medical, spiritual and emotional aspects of care.

HospiceCare in The Berkshires is a nonprofit organization with 35 years’ experience providing compassionate end-of-life care.

Clark Art funding: The Clark Art Institute has received a grant of $600,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that provides three years of programmatic support for the Institute’s Research and Academic Program (RAP) to strengthen scholarship in art history and visual studies. The funding specifically enables RAP to pursue new initiatives while also continuing support for key programs established with earlier support from the Foundation.

The Clark is one of only a handful of institutions globally with a dual mission as both an art museum and a distinguished center for research and higher education, dedicated to advancing and extending the public understanding of art. The Clark’s Research and Academic Program has long been recognized as a world leader in international programs devoted to art history, critical theory, and visual studies. The Mellon Foundation has supported the Clark’s efforts in this area, having previously funded RAP initiatives in East-Central Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The new grant allows the Clark to explore global partnerships in Latin America and on topics related to countries in the region. In addition, the Mellon funds will support participation by international scholars in RAP’s ongoing series of programs in Williamstown.

Hillcrest donation: MountainOne Bank has donated $15,000 to Hillcrest Educational Centers to support the treatment of the students who attend Hillcrest Educational Centers' residential, day and autism programs. MountainOne Bank is also the lead sponsor for Hillcrest's 16th Annual Fall Golf Classic and corporate contributor to the Annual Campaign.

Hillcrest offers a variety of programs to enhance its students' therapeutic experience from gender-specific groups to vocational opportunities, such as obtaining a certificate in food safety or maintaining campus greenhouses that produce fresh flowers and vegetables for retail.  These skills help students develop self-esteem and encourage them to continue their treatment in ways that can help them live more independently in the future.

“The support that MountainOne provides is critical to maintaining the quality and consistency of the cutting edge treatment that we pride ourselves on delivering.  Our children deserve the best and with the support of organizations like MountainOne, we deliver the highest quality of care to the children who need it the most”, said Hillcrest's director of Development and Community Relations, Tim Gallagher.
