PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The second weekend of the season saw a mixture of results for Soccer Domain Academy teams as they went 1-2-2 in a weekend that included four home games.

It was a glorious day for soccer in the Berkshires with four SDA teams scheduled home games at Berkshire Community College and one visiting GPS Metro Reds.

U13 Girls

The first game of the day saw the U13 girls host NEFC. A very positive start from the girls saw SDA go 2-0 up. The first goal came in the sixth minute with a good finish from the edge of the box. Shortly after, in the eighth minute, a great ball was played through to put the striker through on goal. The keeper made an inspired save but the striker followed up on her own shot to slot the ball into the empty net.

The game plateaued out and NEFC began to fight their way back into the game, with some great balls played behind the SDA defense. This paid off and NEFC took two chances before the break, the teams went into half time all square at 2-2.

NEFC started the second half well and scored to make it 3-2 within seven minutes, however a fighting SDA performance got them back into the game. With six minutes remaining of the match a shot was dispatched from the edge of the box over the keeper, an amazing finish to make it 3-3. The match ended all square..

U14 Boys

The second home game of the day saw SDA U14 goys also faced NEFC. both teams were strong and very well matched which made for a great competition and exciting game. As expected it was end to end soccer, both teams had physicality, speed and players that could work the ball around the field very well.

The game continued to be played a very fast and physical pace. As the game went on SDA started to create chances and the keeper made a few fantastic saves to deny the SDA team, chances continued to be created for the duration of the half with the bar being hit and a ball cleared of the line, SDA was unfortunate to still be level 0-0 at the end of the half.

The second half was another great contest with both teams working hard and living up to their physical standards, chances few and far between it was going to take something special to break the deadlock, and something special is what we got. With a well worked passing sequence the ball found its way out wide and an early deep ball was played into the area, only to be met with a bicycle kick from SDA’s left winger, sending the ball flying into the top corner of the net. The game continued and chances were still hard to come by.

However, NEFC forced a quick counter attack, catching SDA on the back foot. The ball was scrambled around a crowed box and the referee gave a penalty to NEFC which was dispatched well. The game finished 1-1.

U15 Girls

The third home game of the day featured the U15 girls playing NEFC. The game was very even in the early stages with both teams failing to create many clear chances to score, there were some very even match ups across the field and a lot of the attacks were quickly closed down by both teams, a good move from SDA with a well worked pass inside resulted in the crossbar being hit. As the half came towards an end NEFC mounted some pressure but strong defending from SDA allowed the teams to go into the break at 0-0.

The sides came out for the start of the second half and SDA started strongly, creating some chances and putting the NEFC defense under constant pressure. As the half went on the pressure started to take its toll on NEFC, a corner was awarded to SDA, a fantastic deliver and bravery from the striker saw SDA take the lead with a fantastic headed goal. The girls worked hard for the remainder of the half and a very well deserved 1-0 win was claimed by SDA.

U12 Boys

In the final home game of the day U12 boys faced up against GPS Boston Elite. A very bright start from SDA saw them creating chances and looking threatening in the GPS final third. SDA had the majority of the ball and moved it around well in regular patches of the initial stages, in the 17th minute SDA were stunned by a GPS goal. After the goal, for the remainder of the first half both teams played some good soccer and chances were created at both ends. The half time whistle went with the score 0-1 to GPS.

It was a slow start to the second half for SDA and GPS had a lot of the ball. SDA were punished in the eighth minute of the second half with a good goal making in 0-2 GPS. The home team battled hard to fight their way back into the match and got in behind the oppositions defense a number of times, however the difference in physicality showed and SDA got more and more desperate to create an opening with the expense of team shape. With three minutes to go GPS took advantage of this and left spectators in no doubt about the result by adding a third goal to kill the game off. The game finished in a 3-0 GPS win.

U12 Girls

The only SDA away game featured the U12 girls in their first game of the season. They had to endure a long journey to GS Metro Red (Boston for their 9 a.m. kick off. SDA started the first half very strongly and disciplined. The maintained shape made it very difficult for GPS to break them down. At the end of the first half GPS got down the wing, put a cross into the box, SDA tried their best to clear their lines and were very unfortunate for the ball to come off the defender and nestle into the back of the net, making it 1-0 GPS.

SDA played some nice football in the second half putting together some great combination plays and moving the ball very elegantly, resulting in a number of chances being created. One coming really close just sneaking the other side of the post and going for a GPS goal kick. With SDA putting all their effort in to getting a goal back and a GPS break resulted in a free kick at the edge of the box. This was dispatched well and the game finished 2-0 to GPS. A well-disciplined, hardworking performance from the SDA girls, coach Graham will be looking to convert these performances into results
