PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Family YMCA has opened registrations for its licensed elementary school-age programs.

First day of care will be Tuesday, Sept. 1 with half day care at the available schools and at the YMCA. Pittsfield kindergartners’ first day is Sept. 2 with half day care available until Sept. 21 at the YMCA.

The Pittsfield Family YMCA offers before and after-school programs to elementary school-aged children at Allendale, Crosby, Egremont, Richmond Consolidated (after-school care only), Stearns (before AND after-care) and Williams elementary schools, as well as the Y, 292 North St.

The Y’s before and after-school programs combine academics with play and offers a caring and safe environment for youth who could otherwise be left unsupervised. The YMCA’s school-age programs provides a fun, safe, active environment for children and focuses on the Y’s core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

Children receive a nutritious afternoon snack, homework assistance, outdoors and gym activities, arts and crafts projects, group initiative games, as well as many other enriching activities. All sports and fitness activities are based on the SPARK curriculum with defined fitness activities, made possible by the Carol M. White Physical Education Program and Pittsfield CAN (Connecting Activity and Nutrition).

The YMCA’s elementary before- and after-school-age care program is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care. During the school year, the program runs from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. at the Y, and 7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. at local schools: Allendale, Crosby, Egremont, Richmond Consolidated (after-school care only), Stearns and Williams.

The cost is: mornings for $7.55/day; afternoons/half days for $15.88/day and full days for $32/day. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify, to ensure every child and teen has the opportunity to learn and grow at the Y. There is a two-day minimum on all programs. Participants receive a free youth membership to the Y and can be registered for swim lessons or sports at the member rate.
