PITTFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire Community College Basketball Club is gearing up to host its first home games in 20 years on Sunday when American International College visits Paterson Field House.

The college is part of the Southern New England Club Basketball League and travels and competes against other club teams. It plays a 13-game schedule, with two of those games being hosted on the West Street campus this season.

BCC Director of Recreational Services Lauren Pellegrino said the 14-player team travels as far as Boston to play club teams from Boston College, Providence, and Harvard.

"It's a big sense of pride for the school," Pellegrino said. "Everyone's really excited."

The club started in January of 2014. Pellegrino noticed that there was a consistent group of kids who would show up to the gym every afternoon and scrimmage, so she decided to see if they would be interested in starting a club team and playing other schools. They played six games last season and were invited to join the Southern New England Club League this year,

"Our team had so much talent on it that these schools really respected them, and that's how we got invited to join the league this year," Pellegrino said.

The team is coached by a volunteer alumnus, Eddie Pomales, who played last year. It scrimmages on Tuesdays and Thursdays and has a closed practice on Friday, but Pellegrino said she sees them all in and out of the gym every day.

The team is made up of 14 local Berkshire County players who have previously played with or against each other in high school.

Its first home game is scheduled for this Sunday at 1 p.m. against AIC. On Feb. 1, it will be holding an alumni event at noon before its second home game at 1 p.m. against Goodwin College.

Players on this year's squad include: Keiland Cross, Joe Wiggins, Mike McMahon, Mike Taylor, Shaquille Ardrey, Brandon Davis, Dante McClerklin, Brian Adams, Steffon Charles, Jimmy Clark, Manny Diaz, James Cimini, Mak Avallon, Brandon Hurst and Anthony Baroli.
