Friday-Monday: Frank at The Little Cinema

An offbeat comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon (Domhnall Gleeson), who finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender), a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head, and his terrifying bandmate Clara (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Frank is based on the memoir by Jon Ronson. It is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.

Romance in Hard Times  

Friday-Sunday: Last Weekend For Romance In Hard Times At Barrington Stage

A Workshop production from BSC's acclaimed Musical Theatre Lab. A soup kitchen in the Depression. A pregnant woman refuses to give birth until she sees more hope in the world. Former socialites, unemployed actors, capitalists down on their luck, and Eleanor Roosevelt try to get through the Depression with some dignity intact. William Finn revisits his celebrated score, and along with his Spelling Bee collaborator, Rachel Sheinkin, re-imagines the book for new hard times.

A two-night only revue celebrating the music of two-time Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist William Finn featuring some of the most beloved songs from Falsettos, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A New Brain, Elegies, The Royal Family of Broadway, and Songs of Innocence and Experience. Town Players of Pittsfield  presents a staged reading of Beyond Therapy directed by Kevin Paul Wixsom. The hilarity begins when Bruce wants to have a relationship with Prudence but wants to keep Bob over the garage. Bob wants Bruce all to himself. Stuart wants Prudence to marry him. Why is there a gun and who is Andrew?  Maybe Snoopy can tell us if they are all beyond therapy in this zany comedy!

Jim Horsford will teach a series of instructions on the potter's wheel. This six-week program will take people of any experience level through a step-by-step process on how to create pots, mugs and bowls using clay. Town Players of Pittsfield will be holding auditions for a staged reading of Gently Down the Stream by Robin Rice Lichtig and directed by Melanie Rivers. Gently Down the Stream is a heartwarming tale about one family's challenges as seen through the eyes of their cat, Turbo. Needed for the cast are three women in their thirties, one man thirty to forty, one person of any age to play the very special cat, Turbo, and one person of any age as narrator.  The performance will be on Sunday, September 28

Thursday: Jazz Vesper at Zion Lutheran Church

Vespers is the name of an evening service—which specifically includes prayers for the close of the day—that has been observed for the last 15 centuries. Zion's Jazz Vespers incorporates elements of jazz, blues, and gospel into this tradition, from the song arrangements, to the harmonies, to the instrumentation: our ensemble includes Andy Wrba, bass; Bill Chapman, drums; Katharine Wiencke, flute; Marisa Massery, vocals; joined by a talent group of guest pianists and other musicians.
