PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Health Systems has been named a Silver LearningElite organization for 2014 by Chief Learning Officer magazine.

Singled out for creating and implementing workforce development practices that deliver measurable business value, Berkshire Health Systems ranked 37th from a record-breaking field of more than 200 companies participating in the prestigious annual benchmarking program. This is the second time BHS has been recognized with the honor, having achieved a LearningElite award in 2013.

The only peer-reviewed ranking and benchmarking program developed in collaboration with chief learning officers and senior workforce development practitioners, the LearningElite has become a valuable benchmarking tool. The program utilizes evaluation methodologies to objectively assess both the scope and value of participants' learning and development practices and to rank the organizations based upon the execution and impact of these initiatives.

"The LearningElite recognition symbolizes Berkshire Health Systems commitment to learning and represents our efforts in creating a learning organization," said Matthew Painter, BHS director of leadership development. "It requires a lot of hard work throughout the system to achieve this type of recognition and everyone should be commended."

According to Sarah Kimmel, director of research and advisory services for the Human Capital Media Group, which publishes Chief Learning Officer, "The LearningElite’s incisive analysis yields solid data that prove L&D initiatives are part of an organization’s value equation.

"It also validates what separates the best from the rest. A LearningElite organization has an aligned, precisely executed learning strategy that is backed by leadership commitment. It consistently delivers learning impact that fosters competitive advantage, drives business results and makes a high-performing organization sustainable," she said.

For the 2014 benchmarking, Chief Learning Officer received a record-breaking number of applications from “progressive, proactive, performance-oriented organizations around the world,” said Norm Kamikow, HCM president and editor-in-chief. “The 58 organizations that achieved LearningElite status stood out as true innovators in enterprise education. Chief Learning Officer is proud to acknowledge the impact and impressive accomplishments of Berkshire Health Systems and the other LearningElite organizations.”

The 2014 LearningElite were honored March 30th in Dana Point, CA.
