PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Suns continued their late-season playoff push as they crushed 13 hits to defeat the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, 5-3, on Thursday evening.

The Suns got good production from the bottom half of their lineup as JJ Elseser (UNC Charlotte) and Brandon Howard (Bowling Green) each scored in the bottom half of the fourth inning to give the Suns their first lead of the game. Tito Marrero (Long Island) added an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth inning with a solo homerun, his first of the season.

Matt Timoney (Harvard) picked up his fourth win of the season as he pitched six innings while only allowing two runs. Timoney struck out a season high of eight batters in the game while only allowing four hits.  Mike Meszoros (Keystone) and Adam Krebs (Keystone) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief with Krebs earning the save with a shutout ninth inning.

Jeff Anderson (Adelphi) was charged with the loss for the Dirt Dawgs as he allowed three runs over five innings of work.

With the win the Suns improve to 24-21 and move into a tie with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks for the last playoff spot in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The Suns are in action next on Friday when they travel to Martha's Vineyard for a crucial doubleheader against the Sharks.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
