PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Matt Gage allowed just two runs and Ryan Deitrich hit a timely triple to lead the Pittsfield Suns past the North Shore Navigators, 4-2, on Saturday evening.
Gage (Sienna), who is the Suns’ most recent acquisition, fanned three batters while walking one. Gage, who was making his season debut with the Suns, earned the win. Michael Meszoros (Keystone) pitched two shutout innings and picked up the save in relief for the Suns.
The Suns offense only scored in one inning but it was all they needed as Deitrich (UPenn) drove in three runs with a base clearing triple in the bottom of the fourth inning. Travis Smith (Assumption) followed Deitrich with a sacrifice fly to left field and gave the Suns a 4-2 lead.
Bobby Dean (URI) was charged with the loss for the Navigators as he allowed four runs over six innings of work. Dean struck out three batters in the game while letting up five hits.
With the win the Suns improve to 18-19 while the Navigators drop to 20-17. The Suns are now within two games of the Navigators, who are holding onto the league’s last playoff spot. The Suns look to keep their four game winning streak alive tomorrow when they travel to Nashua for a 5:05 game against the league leading Silver Knights.
