PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Suns were able to overcome an early deficit and defeat the Brockton Rox, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon.

Jason Condit (Central Illinois) earned his second win of the season while pitching three shutout innings in relief.  Suns' starter Shane Beauchemin (UMass-Lowell) pitched well for the Suns as he only allowed two earned runs over five innings while striking out two.  Jeff Thomas (UMass-Boston) earned the save, retiring the Rox in order to end the game in the ninth.

Rox starter Joe Fasano (NJIT) pitched well despite getting a no decision.  Fasano only allowed one earned run on five hits over five innings.  Rox reliever Kyle Capaldo (Fairfield) got the loss as he allowed two runs over one inning.

Michael Rueger (Trinity) led the way for the Suns as he went 2-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI.  Paul Speicher (LeMoyne)and Ryan Deitrich (UPenn) also each had hits and RBI’s for the Suns.
The Rox were led by Rob McCunney (Fordham) who had two hits and two RBI’s in the loss.

The Suns trailed 3-2 going into the bottom half of the fifth inning when Fasano hit Jimmy Riccoy (UMass-Lowell) to lead off the inning.  The Rox decided to switch things up and went to their bullpen and brought in Capaldo to relieve Fasano.  After Zach Theulen (Bridgeport) singled Capaldo was able to retire the next two Suns hitters.  Capaldo allowed Steve Dill (Harvard) to reach first after hitting him with an 0-2 pitch which loaded the bases. Capaldo than temporarily lost his control as he walked both Rueger and Speicher, which allowed the Suns to take the 4-3 lead.

After the Suns took the lead Condit and Thomas were able to keep the Rox off the scoreboard.  With the win the Suns improve to 9-11 and move into fifth place in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.  With the loss the Rox drop to 8-11.  The Suns are in action next on Friday when they host the North Shore Navigators in a double header.  First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with the second game to follow immediately after the conclusion of game one.
