PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Suns tried to end its losing streak, but failed as the Torrington Titans (9-5) prevailed, 7-6.
The Suns (7-10) took an early lead as Ryan Deitrich smacked a deep fly ball to centerfield for a sacrifice fly off of the knuckleballer Jordan Scheiner and then a RBI groundout put the Suns up 2-0 after one frame. But in the top of the third, the Titans batted around, scoring five runs on four hits off of lefty Zach Ferris.
Pittsfield did cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third. Rob McLam reached home on a balk. Later in the inning, Deitrich hit an RBI single, making it a 5-4 game.
In the top of the fourth, Titans' second baseman Ryan Zielinski hit a ball through the legs of second baseman McLam, scoring Jordan Serena. Suns', however, would get that run back in the bottom half as Michael Rueger hit an RBI double down the left field line.
In the fifth, Titans' catcher Ryan Plourde rocketed a home run into the bullpens in left. In the bottom half, three errors on Zielinski, including two in one play, opened the door for the Suns' as Jimmy Ricoy scored on an errant throw to home plate. But like two days before, the Suns' couldn't tie the game in the ninth.
