PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County will transform the interior of the Berkshire Athenaeum into a golf course.

On Saturday, February 25, 18 holes of mini golf will be spread over all levels of the library in the event from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. In addition, there will be music in the auditorium, food, and crafts projects for the duffers in your group. Admission and a round of golf is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

"We’re hoping to attract families as school vacation winds down, as well as groups from the various corporations who have generously underwritten the tournament," Ron Latham, president of the Literacy Volunteers and the event organizer, said. "We’re hoping to encourage some friendly competition, either among individuals or our various corporate groups."

Proceeds raised will support Literacy Volunteers, which each year serves upward of seventy people who seek help learning to read, or learning English.

“Having the ability to read is the key to getting along in society in every way,” said Executive Director Karen Wallace.

The mini-golf tournament is the first-ever such fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County. The Berkshire Athenaeum is located at 1 Wendell Avenue. For more information, call 413-499-9480 Ext. 100.
