ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School will open its doors for its ninth year, with 308 students, on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
New faculty have been busy with orientation since Wednesday, Aug. 1. Returning faculty came back Aug. 8, to kick off two weeks of professional development focused on collaborative curriculum planning.
"We made great strides last year," Klompus said. "We are looking to build on those successes this year. I am excited about the quality of our teachers and know that we will serve our students well."
Returning students and faculty will notice a few changes immediately upon their arrival back at school.
The student body has grown by another 12 percent, reaching its cap of 308 students.
BArT has expanded its faculty to serve the growing student body, with additional positions created in math, English, Spanish and college counseling.
In addition to the new positions, BArT has hired five teachers to fill openings created by departing teachers or teachers who moved to a different position within the school.
The second floor community room has been converted into a classroom, to accommodate a third section of sixth grade.
The Charles R. Toomajian College Center has moved to a larger space to accommodate an expanded senior class – 24 students – the largest in school history.
BArT is still accepting applications for students in grades 6 through 9 for the 2012-2013 school year. While no seats are currently available, interested students will be placed on the waitlist and accepted throughout the school year if current students transfer out.
