Colonials Fall to Newark Bears 9-3, Pittsfield Colonials Info 12:01PM / Friday, July 01, 2011 | |
NEWARK, N.J. — The Pittsfield Colonials saw their three-game winning streak snapped Thursday after falling to the Newark Bears 9-3.
Things got off to a good start for the Colonials as the first three batters reached on a double and two singles, the last of which, by Danny Bomback, scored Jerod Edmondson to put Pittsfield up 1-0.
Colonials wildness helped the Bears to a crooked run in the bottom of the innings, however, as Newark put up four runs with the help of three walks and a bases loaded double by Pat Biserta. After Pittsfield got a run back in the top of the second on a single by Edmondson to score Peter Fatse, the Bears put up three more in the bottom of the second to go up 7-2.
Newark would score a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout to go up 8-2. Pittsfield would come back with a run in the top of the sixth as Johnny Welch scored on a throwing error to pull the game to 8-3. The Bears countered in the bottom of the sixth with a homerun from Juan Martinez to push the lead back to six.
Chris Vasami (3-2) went 5.1 innings to earn the win. Eric Katzman (0-1) took the loss for the Colonials.
The final game of the series is on Friday with Miguel Flores (0-4, 3.15) on the mound for Pittsfield against Aaron Kalb (1-2, 5.40) for Newark.
