PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Colonials scored seven runs between the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to earn their sixth win in a row, downing the Quebec Capitales 7-4 on Monday.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth but with runners on second and third and no outs, the Colonials started on the comeback trail as Matt Nandin singled to drive in Quentin Davis and Jerod Edmondson and knot the game at 2-2. A double by Danny Bomback moved Nandin to third. That was followed by an RBI groundout by Angel Molina to plate Nandin and make it 3-2 Pittsfield.

The Colonials would extend the lead in the seventh when with a runner on, Jerod Edmondson, who had narrowly missed a homer earlier in the game, crushed his second long ball of the season, clearing the back wall of the stadium by 40 feet to put Pittsfield up 5-2. Two more runs would be added in the eighth when Johnny Welch hit his third double of the game to score Molina and Billy Mottram who had both walked to make it 7-2.

A Pete Laforest homer in the ninth created the final margin.

Quebec scored the first run of the game in the third inning, when Seth Henry drove home Patrick D’Aoust who had doubled to make it 1-0. Henry extended the lead in the sixth when he hit his second homerun of the season to put the Capitales up 2-0.

Chad Paronto (2-3) earned the win going 7.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out seven. It was his longest outing since going eight innings against Myrtle Beach on Sept. 1, 1999. Matthew Rusch (3-2) took the loss for Quebec, surrendering five runs in seven innings.

Offensively, Edmondson and Welch each had three hits and drove in two runs.

The second game against the Capitales comes up on Tuesday. Miguel Flores (0-3, 2.93) will get the start for the Colonials against Bryan Rembisz (1-1, 2.25) for Quebec. Tuesday is Birthday Bash night at Wahconah Park where Pittsfield will celebrate the second birthday of Captain Colonial and the 250th birthday of the City of Pittsfield. The pregame show on 89.7 WTBR will begin at 6:30 outside of a 7 p.m. first pitch as Chad Cooper and Billy Madewell will broadcast the game from the 1791 Club in rightfield.
