LITTLE FALLS, N.J. — Kris Sanchez drove in five runs and James Leverton pitched seven strong innings Thursday leading the New Jersey Jackals to victory over the Pittsfield Colonials, 6-3.

Scoreless into the fourth, New Jersey broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run homer by Sanchez to give the Jackals a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Leverton was at the top his game. After allowing a double to Danny Bomback to lead off the game, Leverton retired 15 Colonials hitters in a row.

Pittsfield would crack the scoreboard in the top of the sixth as Scott Knazek led off with a walk. Two batters later, Bomback hit his second double of the game to score Knazek and slice the New Jersey lead to 3-1.

The Jackals responded right away in the bottom of the sixth when Sanchez delivered his second RBI hit of the game, a double, scoring Mike Jones and Jeremy Slayden for a 5-1 lead. The Colonials did not quit, however, coming back with a run in the top of the seventh with Jonny Welch's sixth homer of the season to cut the advantage to 5-2. A sacrafice fly in the bottom of the seventh by Leonard Davis -scoring Argenis Reyes - and a ninth inning RBI double by Billy Mottram created the final margin.

Leverton allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings to pick up the win. Miguel Flores was attributed the lose for Pittsfield despite only allowing two earned runs in six innings.

Pittsfield now returns home for a doubleheader against the New York Federals on Friday, June 17, at 6 p.m. Dan Cevette (0-0, 7.36) and T. J. Wink (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Colonials against Mike Petrowski (1-0, 0.73) and Jake Loye (0-0, 0.00) for New York. It is St. Patrick’s Day for the Colonials. Fans who wear something green will receive $2 off their ticket. For tickets, call 413-236-2961 or go to www.pittsfieldcolonials.com.
