we could use this in North Adams. River St. is getting NO attention.
Why not just lease this machine and see how it works out the first winter instead of laying out all this money?
If you put any type of blacktop (hot or cold ) on frozen ground it will not stay..If you throw it into the hole with water or loose material in it, it will not stay. If you place it in the hole and back over it with your truck a few times ( common practice) , it will not work.
When you figure the cost of the machine, the backhoe operator, the truck driver and the laborers, I find the quoted cost hard to believe.
Be careful city council, I see another piece of equipment for the backyard coming up.
River street in North Adams is going to be repaved, from Brown St. to Houghton St. this spring. The contractor, when the job was bid in 2008, thought that the sidewalk reconstruction would take longer than it did, and therefore submitted the bid based on paving the street in 2011.
This just another lie coming from this administration. The time has come has come for them to stop blaming everyone else for their failures. Instead of telling us to avoid the streets with potholes, how about fixing them Dick!
Why doesn't the mayor of North Adams call John and ask to borrow the machine??? The tax payers can not afford to for the city to borrow any more money. What ever happened to people helping one another???
Regardless of when it is going to be paved it needs some attention NOW. How about setting some steel plates down over the massive holes. In what world does the poor attempt at 2 hand painted illegible signs warning of something constitute a giligent effort at safeguarding drivers? Can we not even afford some signs and barricades???
Are you all serious? This is the worst pothole season in decades and you think some magic button in North Adams can be pushed and BAM $ just shows up and gets potholes fixed...what, for free? Had Mr. Barrett not screwed up our finances so badly over such a long time period (robbing Peter to pay Paul in underfunded payments)we'd have $ to buy that machine in North Adams as well, instead of having to pay for underfunded insurance programs etc. River Street gets 100% re-paved in the Spring, as do all the other streets in the 2nd phase of the re-do. Stop blaming Dick, and realize that he "inherited" a fiscal mess, and city $ isn't paying for all the re-do ...that's grants, and Federal $. They are doing the best they can with what Mr. Barrett left them...a mess, yes..but Mayor Alcombright isn't to blame folks. He is trying to fix the former administrations screw ups. Get your facts straight before jumping...and blaming Dick..the blame game is fun for alot of you, but your blame is directed at the wrong place. Get over it...the roads will be fixed...but not fast enough for you....too bad there is no magic button, or $ left to buy that machine for North Adams, but Dick is NOT to blame....Barrett is 110%....Check the facts please! Just drive more carefully, and think more clearly....It's that simple!
