PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Cycling Association has announced the return of the Greylock Federal Criterium, a Pro-Am bicycle race held on downtown streets in conjunction with the city's Aug. 19 3rd.Thursday events. First held in 2008, the race took last year off due to the road work downtown.

The race is exclusively for USA Cycling licensed racers of category Pro, 1, 2, or 3 and will offer more than $2,000 in prize money. The course consists of 45 laps on a one kilometer circuit including North, West, Center, and Depot streets. Professional race announcer Richard Fries will be on hand to call the action.

Now in its fourth year, 3rd.Thursdays features local music, art cuisine, craft and more on the streets of downtown.

"We’re thrilled to once again partner with the Criterium as an exciting centerpiece of our August 3rd.Thursdays." stated Pittsfield’s Cultural Development Director, Megan Whilden. "In fact, we’re basing our August theme – ‘3rd.Thursdays on Wheels’ – on the Criterium."

The 2008 edition of the race saw local favorite Will Dugan ride solo to victory after breaking away from the pack at about the halfway point in the race. "We couldn't have scripted a better show" said Berkshire Cycling Association member Mike Ward of the contest. "Will is a national caliber rider but it was still exciting to see him pull off a bold tactic like that against top ranked professional racers." Now a professional rider with Team Type 1, Will plans to defend his title on Aug. 19.
