Square dances are one of the many events that were held at the park over the years. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In the 1800s residents really wanted a place to recreate, to hold events and dances, to play sports.   George Burbank answered the call.   The developer had built much the city's downtown with homes, a hotel, a theater, and many buildings in the North Street area. He had constructed some 300 buildings between 1885 and 1908.   It was in 1892 though when he took eight acres of his own property and built a baseball field. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Chase Racine went 2-for-4 with a triple and a pair of RBIs to lead the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars to a 20-2 win over Chatham, N.Y., on Saturday.   Matt Lee, Collin Merwin and Chase Doyle combined on a six-inning no-hitter.   Lee started and went 3-1/3, striking out seven and walking seven before giving the ball to Merwin.   Offensively, Pittsfield pounded out 11 hits.   Merwin went 2-for-3 with a double, and Nick Guachione drove in four runs.   The Pittsfield 14s were tuning up for this week's trip to Rochester, N.H., for the New England Regionals.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- A pair of aces Saturday propelled a pair of Pittsfield Little League squads to within one win of going to the state tournament.   Connor Paronto threw five innings of one-hit ball to lead the Pittsfield National Little League 8- to 10-year-old All-Stars at Clapp Park in the first round of their sectional tournament.   Konnor Dugan went the distance, striking out nine in six innings of work as the Pittsfield Americans also won their sectional opener in the 9/11 age bracket.   The wins mean both squads will be home on Monday night with a chance to end their respective double-elimination tournaments.Should either falter, it will be on the road on Tuesday in
