Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. will open a new outpatient clinic located at 42 Summer Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The new location will offer medication-assisted treatment and counseling, beginning Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

"There is a need in the treatment community, and Department of Public Health data shows that," said Kristin Nolan, Spectrum's director of outpatient services. "Local residents will no longer have to travel round trip as far away as Springfield and Holyoke on a daily basis to get treatment. That travel time is certainly a hindrance to an individual trying to integrate back into being a productive member of the

The Board of Health has identified 3 samples of West Nile Virus from different areas of Pittsfield.

PITTSFIELD - The City of Pittsfield Board of Health said that three positive West Nile Virus Mosquito samples were reported this week from three separate neighborhoods. The positive samples were found on Meleca Ave., Garland Ave., and near Interprint on Route 41.

The board once again reminds city residents that although cooler temperatures reduce mosquito activity, there remains a potential risk of contracting a mosquito borne virus from mosquito bites. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from mosquito borne viruses is to take the following precautions.

Downtown Pittsfield reflects on the impact of 3rd Thursday on the 6th birthday of the popular street fair.
Crowd at August 2011 3rd Thursday

By Joe Durwin

Pittsfield, MASS- North Street shopkeepers expressed a range of cautious
optimism to beaming enthusiasm as they prepared Wednesday for the city's
6th year of 3rd Thursday festivities to begin.

"Shopping or not shopping, they're coming downtown, they're checking things
out," said Michael Moore of Persnickety Toys, a co-sponsor of this month's
event, which is themed around local youth.  Moore, like other downtown
merchants, said even the customers who don't make purchases the night of
the event are more likely to return.

Moore  said he was pleased that the announced cancellation of this week's
kickoff had been reversed, as he was hoping

Jeffrey Ferrin's response to discussion that arose at the Feb. 15 City Council meeting in response to his appointment to the Ambulance Review Board
I will say that I am amazed that this is even happening. Especially since I have made this information available ever since I ran against Mayor Bianchi in his first bid to be mayor. The mayor took the time to discuss these matters with me then and even before the appointment. So if he was willing to take the time to look at these issues and found that they were not an issue I am hopeful that the councilors will as well.   I will say that I was a little but not totally surprised that Jonathan Lothrup would do what he did that is how he operates. I would be more encouraged if this councilor took the time to see all the evidence and not just what was published I however

This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense. Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.

I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.

The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

With the packet now fully digital in pdf form, all councilors, and everyone with an internet

The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments ...and more than a few delighted squeals.

January 29, 2011
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
The open house featured a Music for Preschoolers class, designed to "children’s awareness of rhythm, ability to sing and move creatively to music," which
