Joseph Frank Sinopoli

Joseph Frank Sinopoli, 90, of 709 Peck's Road died Friday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 17, 1914, son of Vito and Maria Salzarulo Sinopoli, he attended local schools.

Mr. Sinopoli had been employed by GE in the power transformer department as a group leader for the maintenance department. He retired in 1977 after 37 years of service.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He was a member of the GE Pensioners' and Quarter Century clubs. A union steward at one time, he helped establish a United Electrical Workers (UE) local at GE in the 1940s.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling on several teams, including the Eagles, Rainbow Club and the GE mixed league.

He and his wife, the former Rita M. Massacani, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Jan. 24. They were married in Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Charles V. Sinopoli of Norco, Calif., David J. Sinopoli of Lanesboro and Albert J. Sinopoli of Pittsfield; four daughters, Rita M. Reagan of Corona, Calif., Kathy L. Nimons and Donna M. Sinopoli, both of Pittsfield, and Diane M. Slough of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Nicholas Sinopoli of Pittsfield; a sister, Mary Cimini of Pittsfield, 19 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph F. Sinopoli, who died Feb. 25, 2005, will be Tuesday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Bruno and Jack Sinopoli, and by six sisters, Elizabeth Penna, Rose Penna, Theresa Wooden, Catherine Fresia, Carmella Bernardini and Marion Gigliotti.
