Mary Elizabeth “Betty” LaChance

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” LaChance, 78, of 1 Lyman St., Westboro, a native of Pittsfield, died Sunday at Marlboro Hospital.

Born on Oct. 28, 1924, daughter of J. Leon and Yvonne Dube Bonin, she was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She also had resided in Riverview, Fla., for 15 years until moving to Westboro last year.

Mrs. LaChance was employed as a clerk in the engineering department of the former New England Telephone Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, a member of its St. Anne Guild and a worker at its bingo games.

She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

A professional cake decorator, she also enjoyed needlework, bingo, bowling and traveling.

She and her husband, Edmond J. LaChance, were married April 7, 1947, in Notre Dame Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Albert E. LaChance of Shrewsbury, Norman L. LaChance of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Paul E. LaChance of Dudley; a daughter, Anne M. Devine of North Kingstown , R.I.; a brother, Charles Bonin of Pittsfield, and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mary Elizabeth “Betty” LaChance, who died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, was predeceased by a brother, Gerard Bonin, and a sister, Sister Helen Bonin of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit. She leaves her son-in-law, Jerald Devine; two daughters-in-law, Mary Volin LaChance and Elisa Chiarelli LaChance; and seven grandchildren, Amy LaChance, Jennifer Cornwell, Melissa Bircks, Matthew Devine, Nicole LaChance, Kasey Devine and Danielle LaChance, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 7, at 8:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Notre Dame Church by the Rev. Earl A. Hebert. Burial will be at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06160.
