William A. Keenan, 67, of 158 Lebanon Ave. died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on March 3, 1935, son of Phillip W. and Theresa Laravee Keenan, he was a 1953 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He received his bachelor's degree in 1957 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his master's degree in 1959 from the University of Illinois. He lived in Ventura, Calif., for many years.
Mr. Keenan was employed by the federal government as a research structural engineer at the Naval Facilities Engineering Center in Port Hueneme, Calif.
In 1991, he received the military engineers' Goethals Medal and in 1976, the Department of the Navy's Superior Civilian Service Award.
He made significant contributions to the safety design of explosives and authored and co-authored more than 50 technical reports and papers. He retired in 1995 after 35 years of service and moved back to Pittsfield in October.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. He leaves a sister, Mary Bailot, with whom he resided.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. William A. Keenan died in Pittsfield on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. Besides his sister, Mary Bailot, he leaves two nephews, Kevin and David Bailot, and a niece, Deborah McBride. He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Elaine Keenan.
The funeral will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 9:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mark's Church celebrated by the Rev. Henry Dorsch, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Dec. 17, from 3 to 6 at the funeral home.
