PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Barbara Jean (Ridel) Simkewicz, 72, of Pittsfield, Mass., died Wednesday February 14, 2018, at her home.

She was born in Hartford, Conn., on June 26, 1945, daughter of Matthew and Genevieve (Ludwin) Ridel. She attended local schools.

Barbara enjoyed walking around Onota Lake. She loved music, dancing and arts and crafts and was especially proud of her Polish heritage. Barbara was devoted to her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her former husband, John Simkewicz, who died on September 21, 2016. Survivors include her daughter, Amy; her son, Robert; two granddaughters; and her close friend Burt. She was also predeceased by her son, Brian Simkewicz, who died on January 19, 2001.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Barbara Simkewicz will be Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, Mass. Burial will be private. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
