Margaret A. Cranton, 82

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Margaret (Peggy) A. Cranton, 82, of 15 Skyview Drive, Pittsfield, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Mount Carmel Care Center. 



Born in Pittsfield on January 19, 1935, the daughter of Henry E. and Ethel L. Welch Daly, she was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and a graduate of the St. Luke’s School of Nursing. Mrs. Cranton had been a registered nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital and later at the University of Florida—Gainesville Teaching Hospital. She returned to Pittsfield in June 1977 and worked as the office manager at Chemex. 



She was a member and secretary of the Hinsdale Lions Club and she was also a member of the Berkshire Genealogy Group at the Berkshire Athenaeum. 



Mrs. Cranton is survived by two daughters, Terry A. Douglas and her husband Dion of Hinsdale and Allison M. Carlson and her partner, Kirk Collins, of Tampa, Fla.; a son, George D. Cranton Jr. and his wife Caroline of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Jean E. Giardina and her husband, Enrico, of Pittsfield, and Josephine F. Coltrara of Reseda, Calif.; a brother, Daniel C. Daly and his wife, Joanne, of Port Royal, Virginia; five grandchildren, Tyler N. Carlson, Evan D. Carlson, Amy  E. Carlson, Rowan E. Cranton and Kristin N. Zuber and her husband, Adam; and four great-grandchildren, Charlotte R. Zuber, Nolan F. Zuber, Bodhi J. Zuber, and Arlo J. Zuber. 



Margaret was a wonderful mom, Grammy, and friend who will be missed dearly. Margaret’s family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful staff at Mount Carmel Care Center. 



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Margaret A. Cranton will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale with Rev. Jennifer Kimball officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. 



Burial will be private at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hinsdale Lions Club or to the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale both in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
