FULL MOON HIKE & BONFIRE Richmond, 7:30 p.m. Sat., at Hilltop Orchards, home of Furnace Brook Winery.A guide will lead the group on a hike of approximately 1-1.5 hours beginning at 7:30pm. A bonfire, wine tasting and live musical entertainment immediately following. This nteractive journey incorporates Native American traditions relating to moonlight. ANNUAL COMMUNITY BIKE RIDE Pittsfield, 9 a.m. The city's Department of Community Development Recreation announced its annual community bike ride, which will take place at the Controy Pavilion on Onota Lake at Burbank Park. The ride kicks off at 10 a.m., with rider registration set for 9 to 9:45 a.m. It is free to participate in this six mile trip. FISHING DERBY Pittsfield, 8 a.m. The City of Pittsfield Conservation Commission has announced that they and Lyon Aviation will sponsor a Fishing Derby for youth 14 and under Saturday, at Wild Acres (rain or shine). Volunteer support will be provided by the Onota Fishing Club to assist with dressing fish, providing fishing tips and techniques, baiting, etc. The derby will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until 3:00 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to those who catch a tagged fish. Bait will be provided, and a limited amount of fishing poles will be available for use on a first come, first serve basis to those who do not own one. Michael Lyon, President of Lyon Aviation, said that he and his family participated regularly in fishing derbies and decided to give “back to this event so that other children may continue to enjoy this time-honored tradition”. YOUTH CENTER INC. TRAIL RUN Adams, 10 a.m. Youth Center Inc. and Adams Friends of Animals will hold their 2nd annual 5K trail Race/Take your children & pets for a walk event on June 1st at 10am. The race and walk will begin and end at the Russell Field portion of the Ashuwilticook Rail Trail. Registration form are available on the youth center website youthcenterinc.org or at the center, located at 20 East St. in Adams. Early registration by May 20th $25 for 5k, $10 for family walk— Day of event $35 for 5k, $15 for walk. First 100 registered will receive a free tee shirt! After the race activities will include Food, raffles, bounce house, face painting, tennis games/instruction, youth obstacle course and games! Proceeds will benefit programming at the Youth Center and Scholarships for Northern Berkshire students in a veterinary field. Donations of pet supplies ( food, litter, etc) will be accepted. DRAGONFLIES AND DAMSELFLIES New York Dragonflies and Damselflies are some of nature's most fascinating, beautiful, and speedy creatures. Erin White, Zoologist with the New York Natural Heritage Program, will lead this workshop. The morning will be an indoors session on how to identify dragonflies and damselflies using shape, color, and body structures (and microscopes). In the afternoon, we will venture out with nets and guides to see who's flying over the wetlands and ponds. Bring a lunch and water, footwear you don't mind getting wet for the wetland, binoculars, and a hand lens if you have one. Registration is limited to 12. Charge $5, Pre-registration required.
