Are We There Yet?: Magical Weekends
By Rebecca Dravis,

Do you believe in magic?

I'm not talking about the kind of magic you see in shows at places like Six Flags, which are amazing and fun but are fairly inaccessible to the average person.   No, I'm talking about the kind of magic that makes you feel special down to your core, a moment that remains stamped on your memory forever, an experience that you can summon up to sigh and smile about weeks, months and even years later.   That's the kind of magic I felt when I went to the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation's annual firefly hike last summer for the first time.   I had

Three Berkshire Towns Listed As 'Dreamtowns' In Globe
By Andy McKeever,
08:13AM / Thursday, June 27, 2013

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The "Albany, N.Y., suburb of Lanesborough" is apparently a "dream town" to live in Massachusetts, according to The Boston Globe.

The Globe used an online tool asking users to list their priorities such as schools, movie theaters, restaurants, "hipsters" — which, from what we can tell, is dependent on the number of hybrid cars and Starbucks — crime rates, location and housing costs.

We agree that Lanesborough is pretty dreamy — beautiful lake and rollings hills, and a nice little school. Where else can you get rural living a mall?

We're wondering, though, if The Globe writers used a map when they

Are We There Yet?: Strawberries Abound
By Rebecca Dravis,
12:47PM / Thursday, June 20, 2013

Last summer my daughter and I planted one tiny strawberry plant in our back yard. We dug out a small square space, put bricks around it so Daddy wouldn't run over it with the lawn mower, and hoped for the best.

One strawberry grew, the plant itself withered and we thought it was a lost cause. But then last week, much to our surprise, another solo strawberry had grown. One strawberry a year is not exactly what I had in mind when we planted it, but one is better than nothing, right?

If your family loves strawberries and all of the delicious ways to eat them as much as my family does, this is a good weekend for you.

If you read this before 5 p.m. Thursday, June 20, head

Are We There Yet?: Father Appreciation Weekend
By Rebecca Dravis,
01:05PM / Friday, June 14, 2013

I was listening to NPR's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" show a couple weeks ago when they mentioned a story about women going to some outfit in Hawaii where they could give birth among dolphins. One of the many subsequent jokes about this was that a dolphin is just about as useful in the birthing process as a dad.

My 7-year-old daughter was in the car with me, and she piped up, "What does that mean? Dads don't do anything to help babies be born?"   Dads really have a bad rap, from jokes like that to the recent spate of commercials showing them acting hapless in basic baby situations, like diapering and swaddling. Dads are also

Are We There Yet?: Dalton Carnival Memories
By Rebecca Dravis,
11:30AM / Friday, June 07, 2013
The year was 1990 and I was in the throes of my first love at the age of 15. Sean and I started "dating" our freshman year and were on and off throughout high school, officially going off for good after a disastrous New Year's Eve party our senior year. Twenty-three years later, I'm married with a child, he's married with a child, but I always will remember the moment in 1990 when the world seemed perfect to my teenage self.   It was at the Dalton Carnival — you know, the one that fills the American Legion field every June? I see it called the "Dalton Fair" now in advertisements on the side of the road, but it was always the Dalton
