Sleepy's Closes in North Adams
Staff Reports,
03:26PM / Tuesday, August 27, 2013

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — One of the  business questions downtown has been "how long can Sleepy's survive here?"

Turns out about six years.

The Sleepy's mattress store that's anchored the corner of the L-shaped mall since about 2007 has closed up. This all apparently happened on Tuesday morning.

A sign on the door informs patrons that there is a Sleepy's showroom at 555 Hubbard Ave., otherwise known as Berkshire Crossing, in Pittsfield.

There are also Sleepy's in Greenfield, the Springfield area and in Manchester, Vt.

A Brooks Pharmacy had previously occupied the corner space.

When contacted about the closures, franchise owner Richard George of Pittsfield replied, "I'm not at liberty to say right now."

According to Manta, the private company has annual

09:25PM / Monday, June 18, 2012
Carr Hardware is calling it quits in Watervliet, N.Y., done in by long, long road reconstruction.

According to the Times-Union of Albany, N.Y., the Carr Hardware store at 701 19th St. is liquidating its assets and closing by October. A hardware store's been at the location for 50 years; the first 45 as the family-operated DeLollo Hardware and the last five as Carr.

Carr Hardware's Dave Paris told the Times-Union that the two-year road construction on 19th Street had made an untenable cut into the store's profits.

Road work has been tough on the Pittsfield-based hardware chain. The company's president, Barton Raser, said Carr had seen a dramatic decrease in traffic in Watervliet

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Staples in the downtown will close at the end of the year.

The closing, rumored since last week, has been confirmed by Staples, according to several media outlets. Calls to Staples corporate headquarters on Friday were not returned to iBerkshires.

The store opened in the newly refurbished Kmart building in 2006, along with Peebles department stores and North Adams [Garden] Cinemas. Since then, Oylmpia Sports, Planet Fitness and, most recently, a Sears Homestore were added.

Mayor Richard Alcombright said Thursday night that he had spoken with several Staples executives on how the
