NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Citing the need to return "Back to Basics," Ronald Boucher will announce his candidacy for mayor on Sept. 14 at the American Legion in North Adams beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Boucher is six-term city councilor and is currently president.
"Having been a lifelong resident of North Adams, I am very concerned for the city's future. I believe I can bring the fiscal discipline required in these challenging economic times, in addition to bringing the leadership qualities to make the tough decisions," he said in a statement. "Also, my experience in the business industry will allow me to be more of a 'hands on' mayor, and assist in developing relationships and inducements with potential businesses looking to expand or move to North Adams."
"In the upcoming weeks, my campaign will be releasing specific proposals in regards to growing the local economy, and protecting critical city services, without the need to increase the burden on taxpayers. I would like to invite the public to the American Legion on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. to further discuss my ideas for the future of North Adams."
The preliminary election is Tuesday, Sept. 27; election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

I also was a former Alcombright supporter and worker, I am very happy to switch to Ron, our next Mayor, I have seen the light, Back to Basics is the way North Adams needs to go.
Assuming this has been sent to the transcript, why have they not published it? Bias and censorship are starting to be a wee bit obvious in this election.
I totally agree. This press release was emailed at the same time to iBerkshires, The Transcript and The Eagle on Tues Sept 6 at 7:30PM. This is the only publication to appear so far.
The website doesn't even work. Is he joking? He can't even run a campaign that can put up a website before the announcement... and he thinks he can run a city?
lets get real, ron supported Dick on every issue, the city needs real honest leadership, we were lucky to elect a real gentleman in the last election, he merits our support now more than ever.The man is a statesman not a politician. re-elect Alcombright for the good of the entire city.
Real, you dont seem to know what you are talking about, they differ on a great many things...main thing being not spending money you dont have. Why dont you get a committee together with dick and discuss this.
Dick Alcombright is by far the best man at this time for North Adams. He has been up front on everything he has tried to do,he has involved the city council on every single thing and seeks there council on every issue. He doesn't paint a rosy picture about the city's problems and sugar coats nothing. I like his governing style and we need more of it. Give Alcombright another two years, he has earned it.
I think many people would support Ron for the "low taxes" philosophy if he had been a stronger proponent of such while he was the Council President these past two years. It doesn't really matter to me because I happen to agree with the other side of the issue anyway, but how do you promise such things now when you wouldn't stand up and say so when it mattered? He didn't vote No to the override question when it came up to the Council. Now, he'll say he was totally against it.
The picture of Ron on his website shows him standing in front of Pittsfield City Hall and the podium for the City of Pittsfield... has he already forgotten which city he's running in?
Sorry, but you're wrong. Ron did not vote against the override being placed on the ballot. He voted for it. He later said he was personally opposed to the override itself, but wanted the voters to decide. That's called poor leadership. He should have voted against it being placed on the ballot. It still would have gone on the ballot, but at least then he could have taken a real stand.

Don't get too excited about Mr. Boucher yet, folks. The 20+years of John Barrett scarred North Adams more than most people realize. Mayor Alcombright used his skills and available money to run the city in the wake of Barrett. Now the Barrett supporter and those who admire such tactics seem to be swinging axes at Mr. Alcombright. It's not so simple!
Just as I thought, can't say anything about the fiscal problems that Mayor Alcombright has tried to fix, so just attack his family.Ron and JB3 I expected better from the two of you.
What a great night for NA. What a great night for Ron! Standing room only at the legion. Ron delivered a great speech setting out his vision for the city. He has crossed the aisle too bringing together former Alcombright and Barrett supporters. A true leader.
tell me why ron said at his last spring tv show with his camapign manager at his side, " I DECIDED NOT TO RUN FOR MAYOR, I RECEIVED A PROMOTION AT MY JOB, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO RUN FOR MAYOR WITH THE CITY THE WAY IT IS" Talks out of both sides of his mouth, he can really be trusted!!!!!.
