PITTSFIELD, Mass. — When rumors of internal strife at Storefront Artist Project, and its possible closing, first surfaced publicly over the summer, leaders of the initiative said they wouldn't fade quiety.
"If we go out, we'll go out with a bang," Maria Mingalone, board chairman, told iBerkshires.
Bang or not, the nonprofit organization, credited by many with starting the cultural revitalization of downtown, will close up shop at its Pittsfield gallery next month, after nearly 10 years bringing of bringing art into the retail face of downtown. Writer-director Joe Maggio's "The Last Rites of Joe May" asserts that even insignificant characters aren't exempt from very great tragedies. A petty hood most contented when he has a trunk full of phony Rolexes to sell, Chicago's Joe May nonetheless figures he was destined for greatness. STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Peter D'Ambrosio, Johnny Haney, Lucy Holland, Robert T. Horvath, John Hyson and Ned Lamont were elected to three-year terms on Norman Rockwell Museum's board of trustees.
The elections were announced at the board's annual meeting held on Sept. 23. Outgoing trustees include Jay Ireland, Michelle Gillett, Deborah McMenamy and Mark Selkowitz.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Tricks of the Trade: "Culture Making" begins Nov. 8 at MCLA Gallery 51 and will include 19 interactive seminars held across Berkshire County through May 2012.
The monthly seminars will provide topics and speakers on the evolving conversation between art and community, including unexplored opportunities and ideas for the artists and creatives.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield 250, the yearlong celebration of the bicenquinquagenary anniversary of the city, will conclude with an open house, a community celebration and the performance of a comic opera at the Colonial Theater on Nov. 26.
The Colonial open house will take place from 10 to 4. The celebration featuring performances and awards will be held from 11 s.m. to 12:30 p.m. The day concludes at 4 with the performance of "Happy Day or the Wizard of the Elm," which was first performed on the same stage in 1904 to rave reviews. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Museum has been awarded an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Museums for America grant in the amount of $77,615 to fund the second phase of a project dedicated to cataloguing and researching the Museum’s collection of an estimated 30,000 natural science, art, and historical objects.
The project, Cataloguing the Berkshire Museum Collection Phase II, will focus on documenting large collections of minerals, mollusks (shells), and decorative arts, including 500 Japanese and Chinese objects.
