PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire Community College (BCC) reports an increase in students from 1,367 in 2022 to 1,601 in 2023, representing an increase of 17.1 percent--the largest percent increase in students since the institution started tracking this metric in 1991. The last time BCC experienced an increase of this magnitude was 2009, when the number of students increased by 14.3 percent For matriculated students, BCC reported an increase from 1,079 in 2022 to 1,173 in 2023, an 8.7 percent increase. BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration released its Statewide Hazard Mitigation and Climate Adaptation Plan, known as ResilientMass. Fitch-Hoose House Receives Another Painting Donation By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Fitch-Hoose House has received another George Hoose painting donation. The landscape painting was donated by Karen and Patricia Quinn, who discovered it while working on the Linda Gaffney estate. This is not the only donation that the Historical Commission has recently received. In September, the museum received a painting donation of an "Indian Head" by George Hoose. Since the museum was renovated in 2014, the commission has brought and continues to bring to life its scattered history, co-Chair Debora Kovacs said during a previous interview.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A countywide project aims to bridge the "digital divide" between populations.
Pittsfield is the first of 14 local communities to participate in the digital equity planning project through the Massachusetts Broadband Institute and the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission.
The focus is on digital equity, inclusion, and literacy with the hopeful outcome of equal access to technology that is essential for everyday life.
"Digital equity is something we should all take seriously and take a step back and see what we can do to help out our community," Chief Information Officer Kevin Zawistowski said to the City Council on Tuesday.

BOSTON — State police have released a statement regarding "vigilance and readiness" after a former Hamas leader’s call for a "global day of jihad" on Oct. 13. "At this time we are aware of no specific or credible threats in Massachusetts related to the attack on Israel or the call for jihad by terrorists, but as ever, we remain vigilant and will advise our citizens if that changes," The Massachusettes State Police wrote.
"Please know that we maintain constant vigilance and a consistently high state of readiness to rapidly respond to developing threats, critical incidents, and requests for assistance."

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There have been over 1,300 violations of the district's new cell phone policy this academic year with more middle schoolers issued lockable cell phone devices.
Lockable devices have been issued 70 times in Pittsfield's middle schools and 34 times in the high schools. A total of 38 secondary students received the penalty for repeat offenders and 22 were of middle school age.
"They are definitely having a little bit of the hardest time," Deputy Superintendent Marisa Mendonsa said to the School Committee on Wednesday.
