Cases heard before Judge Mary Lou Rup on Monday, June 11.

J.C. Chadwell, 33, of Pittsfield pleaded guilty to a single count of possession of a firearm, rifle or shotgun with a prior conviction for a violent crime or drug offense and a single count of possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card.

Chadwell will be sentenced on Wednesday, June 17. He is to report daily to probation, remain drug and alcohol free and undergo random testing prior to sentencing.

The charges stem from a incident in Pittsfield on August 22, 2009. An additional single count of illegal possession of a firearm was dismissed by the state.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Olde Forge Restaurant took home the most awards at the 21st annual Wing Fling on Saturday while some others popped into the rankings for the first time.

The people's choice for both the tradition and hot wings as well as the ribs all went to the Olde Forge while Ozzie's Steak and Eggs reeled in the people's choice for best original wings.

STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. — Strawberry shortcake will star at the 31st annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 24, under the tent at The Berry Patch on Route 22.   This fundraiser for the Stephentown Historical Society runs from 11 to 4  or until supplies run out. Locally grown, freshly picked strawberries will be served on biscuits or sponge cake with whipped cream, or with ice cream for sundaes.  Strawberry-rhubarb pie a la mode and  whole strawberry-rhubarb pies will also be sold. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — This summer, an 11th grade Monument Mountain High School student plans on biking across the United States to raise awareness and much needed funds for building a new school in Jacquet, Haiti.

Peter Smith plans on leaving June 21 and bike from Seaside, Ore., to New York City, in all a 3,800 mile long journey.

After participating in Berkshire Hills Regional School District's "Give to Give" program, Peter decided to help the AVJ school.

AVJ is the Neighborhood Assembly of Jacquet, an area in Port-au-Prince. The free community school offers arts and sports programs, as well as food and health care, for about 125 children whose families cannot afford to pay

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The School Committee voted 6-1 in favor of offering a one-year interim superintendent position to Gordon Noseworthy, one of two candidates interviewed for the position at its meeting last Wednesday.

At Wednesday's interviews, the committee questioned Noseworthy and candidated Basan Nembirkow on how they would be effective on an temporary basis, how they would assist the permanent superintendent search, their role in budget discussions, school building needs issues, and a variety of other subjects effecting the school district. Raverta found the courts in deplorable condition when he first came to BCC in 2005. So many weeds were growing in the cracked surface that he joked on Monday about having staff mow the courts like the rest of the playing fields.

Festivities marking the nation's 236th birthday will be held around the Berkshires. All events are on Wednesday, July 4, unless otherwise noted.

Williamstown
The Fourth of July parade will wind up Route 2 from Southworth Street and continue down Spring Street, starting at 11 a.m. At the base of Spring Street, Flatbed Jazz Band will play and there will be a free barbecue, courtesy of Stop & Shop and Williams College.

A reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held on the lawn of the Williams College Museum of Art at 1:30 p.m. with actors from the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Comedian Lewis Black is again scheduled to give the British response this year.

Michael Comeau, BMSAR president, said he hopes to get a first aid kit for every dog on the team.STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Dogs are certainly taking care of people when they are dispatched to sniff the air and trudge through the woods to help find a missing person.

But after trudging through wooden terrain, waiting to be deployed, or working in harsh weather, who takes care of the dogs? The American Kennel Club does.

On Wednesday, the American Kennel Club presented the Berkshire Mountain Search and Rescue Team an $1,820 grant to purchase K-9 first aid kits, dog boots and protective vests.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Parade Committee has a selected a distinctive area of the downtown rather than an individual as this year's grand marshal for the Pittsfield 4th of July Parade: Upstreet Cultural District.
