 PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire United Way and Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires are holding an in-person Volunteer Fair in partnership with RSVP from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Berkshire Innovation Center on Woodlawn Avenue in Pittsfield. Sponsored by Berkshire Bank, this free event features 30 diverse nonprofit organizations sharing information about their mission, programs, and volunteer needs. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) welcomes speaker Lisa Hamp on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6 pm for "Safety is Personal: Lessons Learned as a Survivor of the Virginia Tech Tragedy." The talk, presented by the Koshka Foundation, is free and open to the public and will be held in the Boland Theatre, located in Koussevitzky Arts Center. Hamp, a nationally recognized school safety advocate, was a student in the only classroom to successfully prevent multiple entry attempts during the Virginia Tech school shooting 15 years ago. Richard Neal traveled to Berkshire Community College on Wednesday to tout a $350,000 earmark he placed for upgrades to the college's nursing program simulation (SIM) equipment. The congressman later traveled to Adams to announce a $1 million grant for the Greylock Glen. Neal credited part of Berkshire Medical Center's high-quality care to its link with BCC, which provides hands-on experience to medical professionals in training.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council went through 21 agenda items in under 90 minutes on Tuesday night. The panel accepted more than $350,000 in grants for first-responders, approved Eversource's request to relocate and install solely owned poles and wire on Valentine Road, and approved a Tax Increment Financing agreement with Interprint.
The 10-year tax increment financing agreement is expected to save the company $482,000 over the next decade on an estimated $1.9 million more in valuation.
It will provide 100 percent forgiveness of the incremental increase in property taxes resulting from the construction of a building expansion in the first and second years and decrease by

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is receiving more than $3.6 million in awards through the Community One Stop for Growth portal, including $3 million from MassWorks for the redevelopment of a former General Electric (GE) site. "Site 9 has been a wound in our community for a very, very long time. It is a scar that's been left behind from a massive 40-acre site that General Electric once occupied," Mayor Linda Tyer said during a presentation at the Berkshire Innovation Center (BIC) Wednesday.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dasean Smith, 24, of Pittsfield, the third of three defendants charged in the 2019 homicide of 18-year-old Jaden Salois to face trial, pled guilty to single counts of manslaughter, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony on Monday. Judge Jane Mulqueen imposed a 15 to 18 years state prison sentence. The Berkshire District Attorney's Office previously obtained first-degree homicide convictions for brothers Omar Pascual-Polanco, 26, and Carlos Pascual-Polanco, 22, both of Pittsfield, in the Edward Avenue shooting. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The following roads will be closed for this year's Halloween Parade which will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. The parade route will begin on Tyler Street at the corner of Tyler and Smith streets and end at Woodlawn Avenue. The following roads will be closed beginning at 5 p.m.: • Tyler Street from First to Pine streets. • Smith Street from Tyler to Burbank streets. • Burbank Street from First Street to Morningside School. • Second Street from Orchard to Burbank streets.  DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board has decided to create a group that will help determine the fate of the 130-year-old Town Hall. The ad hoc committee will consist of a few staff members, residents, and board members.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town is planning for a special meeting sometime in early January to accept funds from the Baker Hill Road District for a combined police and ambulance building. The Select Board discussed the potential meeting on Monday, after the town received the gift earlier this month. A taxpayer vote is needed to accept the gift.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Eagles Band's annual Community Concert returns to the Colonial Theatre next week, featuring a range of musical works from the 1700s to the modern day. On Friday, Nov. 4, the free event will include a more than 60-musician concert band and the stage band. It will be opened by the Eagles' trombone ensemble.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. and the trombone ensemble will begin shortly after doors open at 6:15 p.m.
"This is an opportunity to hear the Eagles concert band and other ensembles at the Colonial Theatre," stage band conductor and board President James Stakenas said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinance Review Committee is looking into an editorial review of the city's laws to bring them up to date. At its second meeting on Monday, the panel was given a presentation from Zachary Dumont of General Code, a company that offers codification services and has been working with Pittsfield for about 17 years.
The five-member committee had its first meeting last month and was re-established to review the city code. Dumont proposed an editorial legal analysis that looks for things like grammatical errors, outdated language, legality, duplicates, and anything that may not be correct. It takes about 145 days, and the city would receive the recommendations
