Third Convicted in Salois Homicide

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dasean Smith, 24, of Pittsfield, the third of three defendants charged in the 2019 homicide of 18-year-old Jaden Salois to face trial, pled guilty to single counts of manslaughter, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony on Monday.    Judge Jane Mulqueen imposed a 15 to 18 years state prison sentence.   The Berkshire District Attorney's Office previously obtained first-degree homicide convictions for brothers Omar Pascual-Polanco, 26, and Carlos Pascual-Polanco, 22, both of Pittsfield, in the Edward Avenue shooting. Road Closures for Pittsfield Halloween Parade

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The following roads will be closed for this year's Halloween Parade which will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.   The parade route will begin on Tyler Street at the corner of Tyler and Smith streets and end at Woodlawn Avenue.   The following roads will be closed beginning at 5 p.m.: • Tyler Street from First to Pine streets. • Smith Street from Tyler to Burbank streets. • Burbank Street from First Street to Morningside School. • Second Street from Orchard to Burbank streets.   The remainder of the route, Tyler Street from Pine Street to Woodlawn Avenue, will be closed at 6:30 p.m. The Woodlawn Avenue Bridge will be closed

Dalton to Create Group to Determine Fate of the Town Hall

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board has decided to create a group that will help determine the fate of the 130-year-old Town Hall.   The ad hoc committee will consist of a few staff members, residents, and board members. The group would establish the needs that exist now and might exist in the future   Board member Daniel Esko volunteered to be part of the group, and Town Manager Tom Hutcheson will reach out to him via email.   It was determined that developing the third floor of the 1890 building would be a much more involved project than originally thought because the interior walls were put up in a way that is not load-bearing.    The plasterboard would have

Lanesborough Planning January Special Town Meeting

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town is planning for a special meeting sometime in early January to accept funds from the Baker Hill Road District for a combined police and ambulance building. 

 

The Select Board discussed the potential meeting on Monday, after the town received the gift earlier this month. A taxpayer vote is needed to accept the gift. 

 

Police Station Committee Chair Kristen Tool said the sooner the town meeting, the better. Tool said she would also like to have the project itself approved by the town at the meeting for grant reasons.

Eagles Band Community Concert Coming to Pittsfield Nov. 4

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Eagles Band's annual Community Concert returns to the Colonial Theatre next week, featuring a range of musical works from the 1700s to the modern day.

On Friday, Nov. 4, the free event will include a more than 60-musician concert band and the stage band. It will be opened by the Eagles' trombone ensemble.  

The concert begins at 7 p.m. and the trombone ensemble will begin shortly after doors open at 6:15 p.m.

"This is an opportunity to hear the Eagles concert band and other ensembles at the Colonial Theatre,"  stage band conductor and board President James Stakenas said.

Pittsfield Ordinance Committee Considers Code Analysis

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinance Review Committee is looking into an editorial review of the city's laws to bring them up to date.

At its second meeting on Monday, the panel was given a presentation from Zachary Dumont of General Code, a company that offers codification services and has been working with Pittsfield for about 17 years.

The five-member committee had its first meeting last month and was re-established to review the city code.

Dumont proposed an editorial legal analysis that looks for things like grammatical errors, outdated language, legality, duplicates, and anything that may not be correct. It takes about 145 days, and the city would receive the recommendations

New Inspection Sticker Rules in Effect Nov. 1
