Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade Coming 'Back With a Bang!' By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's historic Fourth of July Parade will return on Monday for the first time since 2019.
Themed "Back With a Bang," the procession will have 164 units.
"We have an arrangement of community groups, floats, fire departments, musical units, veterans organizations," parade Committee President Peter Marchetti said. "And, of course, the balloons." For this year, the planners want to thank the community for its ongoing support with a grand celebration.
Parade hallmark Miss Cookie Crumple will make an appearance along with the Great Kensington String Band, also known as the Mummers, from Philadelphia. The popular band is

BOSTON — In an audit of Massachusetts Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division, the Office of State Auditor (OSA) found the Aeronautics Division failed to meet a number of administrative requirements. The audit found the Aeronautics Division does not have a business continuity plan (BCP) or an internal control plan (ICP). The audit also noted that not all employees signed acceptable use policies and/or completed cyber security awareness training. Additionally, it was noted that policies and procedures related to the Aeronautics Division's pilot program for unmanned aircraft systems (drones) should be strengthened.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The following work will take place July 5-8, as part of the city of Pittsfield's 2022 Street Improvement Project. On Tuesday and Wednesday, crews will be milling Appleton, Stratford, and Belvedere avenues, and Howard, and ElmView Terrace. The first course of asphalt will be applied in these locations on Thursday and Friday.  DALTON, Mass. – The Berkshire County Little League Baseball All-Star season got underway on Saturday with a solid win for the Pittsfield Americans and a soggy outing for the teams from Dalton and Great Barrington. The Pittsfield American League 10-and-under All-Stars defeated their crosstown rivals from the Pittsfield NL, 14-5, at Chamberlain Park. In the second game scheduled, host Dalton-Hinsdale jumped out to a 3-0 lead in bottom of the first before a torrential rain left the field unplayable. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has received more than $42,000 to expand the concept of the Downtown Creative District in the West Side and Morningside neighborhoods. The goal is to alleviate barriers caused by zoning and modernize the city's ordinance.
On Tuesday, the City Council accepted a $41,250 grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for the endeavor.
Depending on the budget, both neighborhoods may not make the cut but the focus is on the West Side.

Bump (OSA) released an audit of the Department of Higher Education (DHE), which identified that DHE did not ensure all employees responsible for managing and administering Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Funds, completed annual cybersecurity awareness training. Additionally, the audit found DHE did not meet annually with the Commonwealth Commitment Advisory Board (CCAB) to review key aspects of the MassTransfer Commonwealth Commitment program.  Festivities marking the nation's 243rd birthday will be held around the Berkshires. All events are on Thursday July 4, unless otherwise noted. Planning a trip to Boston?  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Local and state officials are urging the passage of the Future Opportunities for Resiliency, Workforce, and Revitalized Downtowns, or FORWaRD, bill that is expected to bring nearly $12 million to the city. "It is essential and urgent that the Forward Act is passed so that we can get going on the shovel-ready projects that we have right in front of us," Mayor Linda Tyer said during a promotional event at the Berkshire Innovation Center on Thursday with state Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Michael Kennealy.
