 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Public Schools recognized Beverly Gans for her 60 years of service with the district with a lunch and crystal plaque on Friday. Gans will mark 40 years as secretary to principal at Taconic High School in June. "It's been a wonderful experience, and I wouldn't trade it … I've seen generations go through," she said. "I've seen kids go through, I've seen their kids go through, I've seen their grandkids go through … it's just been a wonderful life for me to have this," Her former students will come back to the school surprised to see the secretary they connected with years 0 Comments

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Community Development Board has supported plans for a new hangar at the airport and a change to the cannabis ordinance.
Lyon Aviation, located in the Pittsfield Municipal Airport, plans to remove an existing "T" style hangar and replace it with a new, 22,000-square-foot hangar. The existing one is said to be small and in poor condition while the new build will accommodate a variety of plane sizes including a larger passenger jet.
"There's no traffic impacts, there's no utilities to speak of," Robert Fournier of SK Design Group explained.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Health wants to handle mosquito control as a city, not just as a board.
The panel continued its vote on the 2024 mosquito control plan during its regular meeting on Wednesday, two days after a public hearing with divided input on adulticide spraying.
Rather than approving the same one from last year, Director of Public Health Andy Cambi wants a 2024 plan that incorporates improvements for better mosquito management and collaboration with city officials.

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — With a new fiscal year comes new leadership for the Finance Committee.
Chair Jodi-Lee Szczepaniak-Locke officially resigned on Monday and the panel decided that Vice Chair Stephen Wentworth would assume leadership for the time being.
A few months ago, Szczepaniak-Locke announced that she would be vacating her post and the committee after the FY25 budget season. On Monday the committee endorsed draft warrant articles for the annual town meeting, its last responsibilities before the close of the fiscal year.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Hills County Club is seeking a variance on its pool permit to allow for cost savings on staff members starting next year, including fewer lifeguards.
The club seeks to increase the patron-to-lifeguard ratio from 25:1 to 40:1, though the 50-person pool capacity will remain and there will always be two guards on watch. The Board of Health on Wednesday seemed approving of the idea, though a vote was not taken.
Berkshire Hills board member Sheila Labarbera explained that they are looking for some relief from the rotation of employees required on-site with a potential cost savings of more than $50,000 annually. The pool has been

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday, May 6, Yebin Mai, 32 of Staten Island, NY and Dem Wu, age 52 of Staten Island, NY, were found guilty by jury of their peers in Berkshire Superior Court. Yebin Mai was found guilty of two charges: Marijuana Trafficking in 100 pounds or more but less than 2,000 pounds and Witness Intimidation. Dem Wu was found guilty of Marijuana Trafficking in 100 pounds or more but less than 2,000 pounds.  DALTON, Mass. — Voters approved all but one of the 22 articles on the warrant at the annual town meeting on Monday night at Wahconah Regional High School. More than one hundred registered voters attended the meeting, which lasted more than three hours, to vote on the budget, school district regional agreement, a proposed bylaw change, and various spending items for town equipment, repairs, projects, and initiatives. The town budget of $22,951,092 is an increase of $1,449,376, or approximately 6.74 percent, over this year.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — After being closed for more than two years, Gulf Road reopened on Wednesday for the season. For the last week, the town Highway Department has been clearing up fallen trees and graded the stretch of road on both its side and Dalton's side on Wednesday, Lanesborough Department of Public Works Director Charlie Durfee said. The seasonal dirt road closed because of flooding caused by what was initially thought to be from a beaver dam that was located on the Pittsfield stretch.
